Lambing season 2020 has begun!

I'm totally with you there. It was a risk for sure. There was a good chance that both mammas would reject the lambs we tried to graft. We are extremely grateful for the whole situation. It really saved what could have been a terrible day. And yes, ewes rejecting their own lambs is a PITA. One time we tried putting the ewe in a head gate for three days and she actually took it back.

 

One trick that works sometimes is vicks on the mommas nose and vicks on the top of the lambs butt right above where the tail hooks on and a dab between the lambs ears. If need be milk out the ewe and feed the lamb a couple of days. and wipe the lambs poop on her nose. Kinda gross but the ewe gets used to the lambs smell.

Thanks Dave! We too are super grateful that it is working out. We've done bottle lambs, but it's just so much better for them to be raise by a ewe.
BTW, any foals/pregnant for you guys this Spring?

 

No new babies today (yet?). But, our big ram likes scratching his new spring fleece.

 

No buns in the oven but I’m sure my wife is cooking up plans for next year. The stallion will be bred a couple of times too.
