After taking a load of Pine needles to put on the trail (no pictures) I ran up top to get some American Hophornbeam that I cut last year in the spring. When I came back to the house I moved this A.H. to a new stacking area (easier access) the Red & White Oak will go right next to it, the A.H. we'll burn this winter, the Oak will all depend on the moisture content. I took a long break today because of my sinuses, my plan was to have the Oak moved too, that should happen on Monday afternoon. After that is done I'll concentrate on getting our new stacking area ready.
Sounds like a good day. Were allergies to blame? Hope your oak is ready since there will be 93 days below 0 this winter. Red seems to season the fastest of all the oaks.
We have some very nice Beech with this A.H. ready for this year, I might let this Oak season another year. 93 days below zero, that will never happen.
You going to take a moisture reading on it? I need to take a reading on my pin oak..... Maybe later after dinner. It was css fall of 2011. It burned well this past season the bit I burned.
I'll take a reading tomorrow night, I think our Oak is from the fall of 2010, stacked that same year. It's never been covered so I'm not sure what it will read on the moisture meter.
The area this Oak is stacked in gets big sun & wind, great area for seasoning. It's tough getting to this area with the Rhino once we get enough snow so that's why I'm moving it.
I'll be splitting a bigger split tomorrow night so I get a better idea what the m/c is on those. While helping the wife take some laundry off the line, I noticed more Ironwood that I hauled out in the winter and this spring, we'll have some for 2015/16 too.
Thanks WVhunter. Once I get the Oak moved it will be time to start the new stacking area, I think we have at least three cord if not more split.... some in the woods and the rest by the house.
Looking good Zap We had a sinus cold go thru the family, Sinus drain lasted about 2 weeks. Hope you didn't catch something similar.
It started at the beginning of last week but I never felt bad or had any drainage going on, the pollen this year has been crazy.
For the amount of pollen we've had mine have not been that bad. I'll start moving the Oak this afternoon, then I'll finally top cover both the Oak and the Ironwood. That will leave me an open area that will not look right, guess I better fill it with Cherry.
Juz keep on keepin on Zap... lookin good... My bride's had a h*ll of a time with the sinus thing this year too. Not fun.
