The new one should be just as long as the old one. The plastic on the ends is not a primary feature you could sand both ends down a bit to see if it fits....or take the saw and bearing to a repair shop and see if another bearing fits better.

I've got a big clutch bearing that I have only for emergency use. It sits just a little to loose in the clutch for me. It's the right part but based on other bearing installs it just seams a bit loose right from the factory.

Is there a notch in the drum? If there is is it seated on the oil pump drive ?

Yes, notch is seated. The drum and rim are fine. The bearing is just too long

Did you try and put the bearing on and then slip the drum over it? Make sure it is seated on the crankshaft properly. Only other thing is they sent you the wrong one.

Was the bearing in a bag with the part # on it?

I did put the bearing on first, multiple times, even made sure it was seating good. No part number on the little baggie that the bearing came in. I guess its what I get for buying aftermarket. Have contacted the seller through Amazon to see what i can do. Like i said, everything fits well, except the bearing is too long for the clip to fit on shaft. Anyone know how to attach photos to the email system thats within amazon?

It looks like your rim and washer are Stihl parts. Any part #s on the drum or Stihl markings on it? Sorry for the questions but it's hard being an internet mechanic.

No problem on questions, ask away, hopefully we can figure it out. At work now, will have to look when i get home. The bearing is also bigger around, and the hole in the drum is bigger, so i can't even use the old bearing with the new sprocket....

The seller was responsive, but wanted me to provide pics, which I understand. Couldnt figure out how to through the amazon contact system, so downloaded tha amazon app to chat with customer support. After a lengthy session, they advised full refund is good to go, and have set up a pickup for return shipment. They say I can then order again and get the correct part. I do not have high hopes for that. So once I get my full refund, I imagine I will be ordering through Stihl. Unless someone can steer me in another (hopefully foolproof) direction.

Checked the pieces again..only piece i see with stihl or a number on it is the rim sprocket. Nothing on drum or bearing.

In pics, bearing on top is the original. Original parts on left in the other pic.

It almost looks like a wrong bearing made it into the kit. Will it work with the old washer?

in the 184558 it looks like I can see all of the groove on the crank, try laying the e-clip to where it is just started then place a flat screwdriver on the end and tap it into place.

Wont work with the old washer either. You're right, you can see some of the grove on the crank, but it's not all of it. And it's not enough room to get the clip in position to press, tap, slide, even force on, tried all of those. Its in too much of a bind...even with the old washer which doesnt have as pronounced angles/curves.

It sucks cause it's not that far off, but its just far enough.... Someone mentioned grinding down the end of the bearing to shorten it up, and i contemplated doing that. But it'd be my luck I'd bugger it up and for some reason still not work. Supposedly I will get a full refund, so amazon says. We'll see

Eckie. I went back and looked at your original pics and I've never see a flat type washer on a Stihl. I have 9 different models here and they all look like the new one you got with the kit. I've been wrong before though. Ask my wife.:heidi:
