Been workin on getting some of the bigger rounds quartered up so they're easier to work with. Got a good bit split this morning as the sun came up over the berries.
The summer sun angle makes it get hot back there alot earlier now, so I try to get crackin before it peaks over the trees. Thanks jack, it's all red and white oak. With the occasional sweet gum round mixed in . I usually keep that junk in a separate pile.
Yep! I don't really like splitting vertical but I sure aint gettin those bigger rounds up on the splitter.
Same here-- I get them small enough to be workable because vertical splitting hurts my back like nothing else. The old lady was awesome yesterday and took the last six giants down to quarters because, as she said, this doesn't hurt her back like it does mine. Of course, she's just a tick over 5' tall.
I wad feelin pretty good after lunch and the humidity dropped a little so I finished the rest of the big rounds. I also pulled some of the uglies out from under the pile and set em aside for the bonfire.
