Ok, done for today. I did nothing yesterday on this. All the big rounds and any real firewood is in the pile, waiting to be split. I took a full load of the trailer with the rounds and a 9' tall load of brush to the pile and off the lawn. Here's how the yard looks now. It's getting better but it will be a while before I can rake up the tiny stuff. Plus after I either put the freshly sharpened chain on the dolkita, or get the 2 in 1 on the installed chain to sharpen it. I need to have this stump flush with the grass so I don't hit my boat/trailer on it when parking it. All the usable wood from the tree in rounds , right behind the trailer. The already split uglies in front right are from previous eab ash scores, with the stacked stuff is from the neighbors ash trees he had taken down and I bucked and split last May. There's a bunch of that ash in my 18' long stack on the other end of the property. Here's the shorty but heavy honey locust mega cookies I scored from a " maple" FB scrounges few weeks ago. There's like 8 of these. The grumpy neighbor that said he'd give me 2 ash and a birch never did, but he's dropped off some really crappily cut silver maple pieces. I'll have to recut those. You may see them on the lower left of those last picture, and maybe in the other pics too.
2 more loads of the trailer full of brush. I'm burning in the fire pit too. The pile of branches is going down. Granted, there's a lot in the pile by the burn barrel. As long as I get the brush off of the grass, it will be good. The lightning and the rain we had the other day definitely greened the grass up. I'm actually ready to start raking in most areas. There's a few divots to fill in too. I had to extract a 5" diameter branch from 1.5' into the ground.
Yes. There's a 17" round left on it. I'm waiting until I either see my buddy that has the 2 in 1 file set, and give the dolkita a chain touch up after finding the nail, or I could just swap the freshly ground chain I got back from my sawmill/ sharpener guy. Definitely using the dolkita and not the 029s for that. That stump needs to be cut nice and clean as I'll be seeing that for a while. So I'll need to use a sharp chain.
If I could find my trilink chain that came with the saw, then I'd use that. It's a semi chisel with some bumpers that were taken down a little. It seemed to cut pretty good when new. There's at least that chain, and another baileys full chisel somewhere. I should take a look at the damage that happened from that nail. I don't think it was that bad, as it still cut pretty good. Just made a bit of fines, probably from the couple teeth that took one on the chin. I'll cut the stump flush, and probably will burn it out. I've never tried it, but I've seen vids on YouTube. That stump is right in line with where I back up the boat. I've always had to bend around that tree, now it will be a little easier as a straight shot.
Drill some holes in the stump, fill with diesel fuel (not gas!) let sit for a while to soak in, throw a lit oily rag on it, then throw a pile of those branches on it to "git 'er hot"...it'll be gone after a few days.
Ok. I used the 029s to cut the stump off. I had to cut a few of the remaining branch pieces so they were more manageable and said screw it. And what's left after a couple of loads of brush and that big round There's a lot of twigs left, probably 8-10 gorilla carts worth. I burnt a few carts worth of branches in the fire pit tonight. My wife's on board with burning the stump. Should be interesting.
Ok, last pic of the branches.. just a few piles worth of twigs left, and chainsaw chips. Then I'll work on filling the few divots and holes with dirt and grass seed, as well as stump burning.
Ok, pretty much all cleaned up. Except the pile of branches I hauled below which are going to take a while. I filled in the divots with saw chips and patched the grass as much as I could. I'll just need to drill, diesel-fy, and light the stump, and maybe put a little more soil and some grass seed once it gets a tad warmer.
