Having been under the influence of Sandhillbilly & buzz-saw recently buying saws for their arsenal i've come down with a bad case of CAD myself!
Not really knowing what saw i wanted i knew it'd be a Stihl. Sandhillbilly had asked what saw id wanna get and i got to thinking. I once owned an 028 and didnt realize until years later what a good saw it is/was.

Those FHC members that havent heard the story here it goes.
I was 17 and had been using a small Homelite (XL model i think) with a 14" bar to cut wood. Not knowing any better i didnt care as long as i could cut wood. Hurricane Gloria hit Southern New England September 1985 and i used it to cut a lot of wood at the time including for my uncle who had no children of his own and i now consider him the grandfather i never had. Couple months later he calls me over and hands me a brand new 028. I was ecstatic. My first real saw. Several years later it was accidently run on raw gas and ruined.
Now many years later i realize now how significant this was in my wood cutting "career" as my uncle passed away 25 years ago. The 028 set the tone for my love of Stihl's.
Sandhillbilly PMed me recently about one on CL in Connecticut. I contacted buyer, got some pics (none on his CL posting) and info. Met with him today and now have a "new" member to the family. Saw fired up on the second pull and purrs like a lion! Now my only dilemma is to remember to have my scrench handy to open the tanks. No flippy caps! Thanks Big John!
Going cutting Tuesday, guess which saw is going?
Now to decide on my next addition to the saw family???

Wonder if you could put new caps on it. Although it's nice to keep it original.

A lot of owners of Stihls with the flippy caps dont like them and want the old screw caps. I never had a problem with the old screw caps. Sometimes im not fond of the flippy caps myself. Ive never heard of someone wanting flippy caps on an older saw.

I bought an 026 that had the type on Brad's but they leaked. I was able to get OEM caps from Stihl but they were the newer style screw in type.

    Flippy caps:hair:
Just picked up two today one of them to replace a leaker I had and a spare for the next one that has a bad attitude.
It's an over engineered gas cap for crying out loud.

I had met the seller at his storage unit. I started the saw in two pulls. Ran it full throttle for a few seconds and put it down to idle. You should hear it at idle...music to my ears! My camera can take video...mebbe ill try to get one today.
