New Truck or Not New Truck

I'm in the next slot up...
Nah, its not that bad...I like to buy vehicles that are a couple years old with high miles...that usually means all highway miles and no rust...I have had excellent success with this plan.
Or, like with my pickup, I bought an older truck (2003) from down south...again, no rust...got lucky on this one I have now, mileage isn't too high on it.

 

I had myself almost talked into buying a new truck yesterday...found one on line, but then could not figure out if they were offering the 0% payments for the rest of my life on the 250's. Probably lucked out!!

 

I received two quotes back today. One was $995. The other was $1050. Definitely out of the price range.

My decision is to go get the truck. I've made all of the preparations to keep us safe. Waze has us getting there in 6 hours. With the reduced traffic, that doesn't surprise me. I do hear what some of you are saying. If there was going to be more interaction with people, I would not take the risk. Our only stops will be for gas and bathroom. The bathroom is the real risk, and with proper social distancing and cleaning, we'll be able to manage the situations. Gas is all done at the pump. Plenty of hand sanitizer. We are meeting in the back part of the parking lot of Walmart.

If you have a CCW you still have to abide by all of the laws for each state you travel thru.

I'll get some pics shortly. The run yesterday went off without a hitch. The one thing I would say and did not expect is that people in WV were going around like nothing is happening. Completely different than here in RI. While RI is not perfect, things are more like a quiet Sunday with barely anyone around. In WV all the stores we saw were open, restaurants, fast food chains, people were all over the place.

Thankfully we pulled in the back of the Walmart parking lot, completed the transaction keeping our distance, and off we went to fill up the Tahoe rental. After that was done, we dropped off the rental where we put the keys in the dropbox (one of the few places we found closed) and were back on the road. When we stopped for bathroom breaks which we kept to a bare minimum ( 2 on the way there, 1 on the way back) there was hardly anyone at the gas stations. There was no contact with other people and they washed their hands and didn't touch their faces. Plenty of hand sanitizer was used.

6:30 minutes to get there and the same going back.

Now as I am sure you all know, I am going to be fearful for the next week to 2 weeks as we stay quarantined that none of us show any signs of the virus. Was this stupid? In hindsight, I would say yes. While in the car things were good, but outside of the car, you could not control things. To make matters worse the driver told me that for a fee, they trailer cars directly to people's homes. I was never told this. Even though it's too late now, I am finding how much that would have cost. We both agreed that the full ride was worth up to $750, or waiting until things were safe. I do pray that we live and learn and most important do not come in contact with anyone else should we get sick and infect them.

We'll go the full 2 weeks if needed. I read an article today from the CDC about the 48-hour window for signs to show. This is the most dangerous timeframe as people think they are fine, yet they are infecting people around them they come in contact with. He went on to say that people that contract the virus continue to infect others for 2 weeks after they feel better.

I think you'll be fine as long as you washed hands, used sanitizer, and kept your distance.
