Got the fan a couple days ago and just today got a chance to check. Placed it on top of the battery, hooked up the connector, and started the Jeep (we had been out and about, so it was up to temp). I heard the new fan running before I even got out of the seat. So, fan it was. Now, I just need to figure out how to get to that screw/bolt down near the steering box w/o dismantling the whole front end.
Ratchet wrenches come in handy for tight places. May have to remove the splash pan on the bottom. If you stand on your head and hold your mouth right you can get it
Should be pretty easy once I get that bolt out. I looked underneath yesterday, and I'm not sure going from that direction will help. I might tackle this Saturday.......forecast is for a nice sunny day. I find if I stick out my tongue and grunt some....louder is gooder.....things go much better.
I will always youll the motor and jump it with the battery to see if its good or either pull connector and jump it in place with wire/leads. Some times you may have to loosen shroud then pull radiator then pull shroud. If this is a cherokee from late 90s to present there is no room in there e so with the 6cyl. I have skimmed some parts so sorry I missed the model.
2003 WJ with 4.0 I don't remember the fan being all that tough to remove or install but its been quite a few years.
Yeah, nate's right, except that one bolt. I'll mess with it when the weather clears. I'd be surprised if it takes 1/2 hour once that's out.
Master mech , I hear ya on that as I do a fair amount of repair as well. The 2 do not mix well. Most consider me to be way over the edge also, dosen't seem to stop them for asking for help though. Seems like the older I get the more attitude I aquire. Must be something in the water Eh?
Finally broke down and talked to the local mechanic, then took the Jeep to him today. Took him almost an hour to get that one stupid screw out. It really didn't want to loosen, and that coupled with being in such a cramped space made it a bear. After that, smooth (relatively) sailing and I now have a functioning e-fan. Gooder to go. Just thought I'd do an update instead of leaving the thread hanging. Now, he's telling me the clunk when I turn left is the front bearing. It's always something with used vehicles.
I know you dont have a ford but the jeeps have a similar suspention setup at least with the rear drag links or what ever they call the bar that runs front to back to locate the axle forward to back. My bushings were bad on the frame side allowing the torsion bar on that side to let it clunk when I applied the brakes or turned that way. Not saying thats the problem bit worn bushing can give clunk s too.
I put new front bearings on my jeep, paid a little more and put on Timken , if one truly is bad , replace them both. It's not a hard job but ,you have to torque them right, I had to buy bigger torque wrench ,the spindle nut needs to be 175 ft/lbs.
I'm not convinced the clunk is bearings. I think it's a tie rod end bushing. HDR, Jeep Forum has a guy named ArloGuthrie or something who did a great write-up on doing the bushings. I've watched/read it more than once. My torque wrench only goes to 150 I think, so yeah, I'll need to figure that out if I change those. I'll need a 36mm socket too. Clemsonfor, are you talking about the control arms? This Jeep has upper and lower in the front. Not sure about the rear. ETA: No way was that screw going back in there. It got dropped and lost for a few minutes, and I told him to not bother finding it.

I don't always know my limits. Need to find out what they are before I back off and let someone else take over. I could have bought an extension or 2, plus the swivel universal, but I didn't want to crawl around on the ground where the ticks are anymore. He had the right tools. This is transportation....we need 4 wheel sometimes though. Getting a new vehicle in a couple years, and may keep this.
Yeah I did a write up on them to, http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f13/replacing-front-wheel-bearing-assembly-how-1374495/?highlight= there is a lot of things in front that can cause clunking , one of my stabilizer bar links broke , replaced it then the other side broke , those bolts were a bear to get out, I didn't break em though I did break one hub mounting bolt, I forgot to use penetrating oil on both sides on that bolt , another guy sent me one he had laying around
