I wonder/hope that when this ends a whole bunch of people can continue to work from home if they wish. Think of the savings for employees & better quality of life. JMO.

It works if you're on salary. Hourly is difficult to keep track of.

Perhaps, for some.... our engineering team finished the week out with a Skype call.... the 1st week consensus was that we cranked a bunch of work out, and were kinda wore out by it... days felt busier than working in the office.

No phone ringing, no constant e-mails, no personal disruptions,...... able to concentrate and focus on the task at hand. I get much more done working from the house than the shop.

Ya I was thinking the other day about tech companies in automation may do well in near future . Last 15 years many business’ keep limited inventories relying on on demand orders of raw materials to finish end products . I got a feeling this may end with hard lessons from current supply chain disruptions.

Yep, I'm starting to see that in my parts supply chain too. For now it may work out as demand will likely drop off very quickly as well. World's gonna be a lot different on the other side of this.

I got a new truck coming online Monday . Called notary today to get plates transferred from truck it’s replacing. Recording on voicemail ,,, “we are closed due to governor blah blah blah” CHIT ! Called a business associate who is personal friends with notary who is also in trucking industry. He had talked to them earlier this morning. State is waiving renewals or transfers till this chit passes .Told me make sure insurance matches VIN , put plate on , carry previous trucks credentials and go. Said all the cops are gonna care about is insurance on essential vehicles. Gonna order 1’set of filters and hope to get them. Got a feeling they won’t be needed in a month once this chit is full blown I’ll likely be parked. Got another truck that was bought a months ago being built right now . Title is in limbo somewhere in a state office . I think I’m screwed getting that on the road for quite awhile .

I had lunch with a physician today, along with a group of professionals of different areas. Doc has done some video meetings with patients who need follow up or consultation rather than examination.
Most in the group concluded this event will forever change how we conduct business. In the medical field, hesitant practitioners will be more willing to video consult their patients, and patients will find it is a good way to “see” their doctor. I suspect there will be methods where the patients can hook up their own BP. Heart rates and temps that will feed the information online.

culturally we are in for some not necessarily negative change, but accepting alternatives were such a bad thing.

I've been working from home for the past 9 months. Before that, I've worked from home for stretches of times. EMC, before they were purchased by Dell, had gone to that model. They maintained a smaller office with hotel desks. If you had to go into the office, you would sign in to a desk. The problem is that there were not enough desks, and you would get employees from other offices. Though it was rare I'd have to go in.

What I've found from working from home:
    • Hours:
      • My day will often be much longer. (My commute was an hour to as much as two hours. Add an 8 hour day, and to work 9-10 hours from home doesn't really phase me.)
        • I'll often skip lunch as you don't have colleagues that you would normally go to lunch with.
        • When 5 O'clock comes along, I often find myself still working well past 5 pm.
        • I will start earlier on a regular basis.
    • Flexibility:
      • Along with the long hours does come a great deal of flexibility. I have the ability to pick up the kids from school, sports, etc.
      • Making doctor's appointments is a great deal easier.
    • Production:
      • My production increased due to the lack of drive byes.
      • Skype allows me to meet with my team as needed.
      • Now I do miss the ability to spontaneously interact with my colleagues. Those interactions often result in solutions to problems. Skype is not the same.
    • Human Interaction:
      • I do miss the esprit de corps you form in an office setting.

For me, I'd rather have a mix of 2 days in the office and 3 days from home. This to me gives the best of both worlds. It still provides the office interaction along with the WFH experience. I say that knowing my commute sucks. Before I start my 9 months of work from home, I was 2 days WFH and 3 days in the office. That is not a bad mix either. For those that recall, my dad had esophageal cancer. Last summer he was diagnosed with stage IV esophageal cancer that spread to his hip. That is when my boss allowed me to start working from home.

I was about to start going back to 2 days in the office when this Coronavirus derailed those plans.

My wife has had the option of working from home for a couple of years now but she rarely did.
Now she is until April 15th. at least.
She finished this week with a Virtual Happy Hour with her team Friday via Skype.:)

The sky is falling... Found out today that I no longer can go to a barber shop to get a haircut. State has closed all of them along with hair salons and tatoo shops and such.

Yup, makes sense...cops are not responding to property crimes, then release the criminal element...sounds like things are just going to [IMG] to me...
