I actually have no strong views either way. I will go horizontal or vertical as the situation demands. I just like to cause trouble! But then I'm sure you know that.

We are approaching the end of the burning season so I will make shift for temporary staging of the wood before I start refilling the shed. All she asks is I don't obstruct her parking. She knows I'm chomping at the bit to hoard more wood. And I need some exercise! (What did she mean by that?)

Yup. I'm aware of what you intended. It's all in fun.

Yesterday I filled the trailer with a load of wood and brought it home. About 2/3 +of a cord. Today I split to manageable size another 3/4 or so cord and left it piled. I will finish split the trailer load and stack tomorrow. While I was vertical splitting a large round today I was kneeling in the grass and shoving the round close against the cradle to split. A neighbor to the wood owners who was taking a walk came up and watched for a few minutes then said "I see you have a pickaroon, do you know what else you need"? A funny feeling came over me but I said "no, not really." "What you need is a milk crate and a boat cushion so you can sit and don't have to kneel in the grass!" He must have thought me strange when I started laughing. I just couldn't seem to articulate about the Firewood Hoarders site, the differing opinions on vertical or horizontal and the approved method of seating when operating vertical Et Al. It just tickled me so hearing it from him. I never got the whole story out in a coherent fashion before he gave me a couple of odd looks and moved on. Must have thought me strange fellow indeed! I did notice that, when returning from his walk, he stayed far on the far side of the road! trailer1.jpg trailer2.jpg

Nice looking load of splits. Ive watched my friend use the hydro while kneeling so its whatever works for the individual.

Thanks for the comment Brad. Actually a seat would be great for already manageable splits or small to medium rounds provided they are within reach of the pickaroon. For the first split on those big boys kneeling or standing works best for me. A seat would just be in the way!

Would mean a fun time and firewood for us both! If they blew the bridge, we would have to build a raft to get you home.

I am laughing also. It is nice to know somebody other than us uses a boat cushion. Don't have a milk crate so use a piece of wood that has been bucked.

That right there, metalcuttr , is hilariously funny and true...I’d consider erecting a tarp/curtain/old sheet to hide behind...Nice score my friend

Yeah, iirc, the shed behind that stack is well stacked as well.
Probably vacuums and polishes the tops and exposed ends every Saturday. LOL
I only joke about it because I used to be just as bad if not worst about having everything perfect.

I spell finally with 2 ells though. ;)

Finished splitting the trailer load of wood. This is after the first session. 1) Row is not quite filled in the center. 2 )Now set up for last third of the trailerload. 3) Where it will eventually go. 4) Lots of pitchy centers that will become fat kindling. 5) This batch finished. Had to sawtooth the rows so the truck and trailer could still negotiate the drive around. You can just make out the turn radius scraped on the ground. Back to more splitting of the big rounds at the tree site tomorrow! galoway1.jpg galoway2.jpg galoway3.jpg galoway4.jpg galoway6.jpg

Those pitchy centers look yummy! It will be fun to split that into thin batons for firestarters.
