We were playing in our softball league tonight and had way to close of a call. I had just got a hit and was on second with a buddy on third. One of our power hitters was up to bat and hit one of the hardest line drives I seen. It was so fast I didn't even see it go and it hit our runner on third right in the face. Luckily it caught him in the nose/mouth and not the temple. Busted his lip and nose up but nothing broken only a loose tooth. Wow that guy is a man, I would've been out. But he literally jumped right back up. It bled a lot and we called in an ambulance and had him taken to the ER. He called back though and said he was fine. Only a busted lip and a loose tooth. Wow that could have been worse, thank God it didn't hit him up any higher. Could have killed him. He said he was ready for a beer so I think he will be ok.

I watched a couple guys get drilled by line drives when i played in a league. Scary stuff hearing that SMACK then wondering how bad they're hurt. I used to watch those power hitters like a hawk. :binoculars: Glad to hear your buddy aint hurt too bad.

When our son was 6 he was in a small fry league. I was up in the stands sitting next to a mom of a kid who was standing outside the fence swinging a bat. His mom saw it the same time I did, but neither of us was quick enough... the little guy came around with a hard swing just as his little sister came up behind him. He caught her right in the head. The sound made you sick. We all expected the worst, of course, but after a good howl she settled down and was fine. Saw her all season many times after. I think she gave her brother a little room from then on tho... and took a few lives off the rest of us.

Sometimes the worst part is ( in this case the runner on third) seeing the ball coming (so fast) and not even being able to react in time. It sucks. Glad he is ok. Did u guys win?

Many years ago when I was young and foolish, as opposed to being old and foolish now, I pitched. During the short course of my pitching career I tried to inhale hi-speed softballs on several occasions. Lets just say you better have your glove in the right place @ the right moment or...............Talk about a "pucker power" moment !!

Glad he was ok. I had my top of my mouth get a bone fracture, right above the canine teeth. Ive still got a bump in my upper lip from where my canine went through it. I was pitching in little league and called off a pop fly between first and home. I lost the ball at the last moment in the light and got thumped. I was bleeding like a stuck pig for a bit, but they took me out and would let me go back in. Which I couldn't understand... The next day go to the Dentist and had to get wired up and liquid diet for a bit. That stunk...

Glad he is o.k. Swags. That stuff is scary. .

In my son's ball game 2 weeks ago, my son was pitching and caught a line drive to his face. He basically just brought his glove up out of instinct and caught it. About 5 minutes later, his buddy wasn't so lucky. The catcher tried to throw out a runner at third. He popped up, threw the ball and took his helmet off. As he threw, the runner started coming to home, rather than return to 3rd base. The 3rd baseman, threw a rocket right back to the catcher and the catcher missed the ball with the glove. The ball hit him right in the cheek/nose/eye area.

The kids eye instantly turned bloodshot, blood was pouring from his nose. He had a good shiner, and his eye is still blood red on the inner part of his eye, after 2 weeks. But he had no broken bones, nose, or teeth.

It's scary how fast this stuff happens.

Yes we did win, went extra innings though. I hit the tying run in the bottom of the 7th and it stayed that way through 13 innings until we finally scored on a line drive. Was a looooong game, it took almost two hours. Normally just an hour.

I always felt that way too. Lookin it up... a baseball weighs about 5 oz and a softball 6.5-7 oz. The baseball can get hit faster for sure... but, man... a softball hit in a hard line drive... yeeeeeooooow... take yer head off... o_O

Either way it's not good.. Years ago my 2 sons were playing catch with a hardball and my younger son who is 21 now caught the ball right in the eye!! Talk about a scary moment! He fractured his eye socket and the black bruise was gruesome to see and luckily he is OK today..And people wonder why I have gray hair..

    I'm glad he's ok.

Over 11 years ago I was playing softball in a tournament in Massena NY (our game was next) a guy hit a double then got a pinch runner, he trotted of to his bench, once he got to his bench he had a massive heart attack, he died on the way or in the emergency room.

A few weeks later I was talking with one of his team members, he wasn't suppose to be playing because of a heart condition he had.

Actually yesterday back in 2009 was when a another friend was killed in a softball game. He was only 29 years old at the time. And he absolutely loved playing softball. He always gave 100% and was a great player. He was full of life and a great person to be around. He was running down a fly ball and dove for it as the other fielder was running for it too. They ended up colliding and TJ's head hit Dan's knee, TJ got knocked out and we called an ambulance but honestly didn't think it would have killed him. We kept on playing that night and after we had stopped for a beer with a friend when We got the call that TJ was brain dead. That was a huge shock, they kept him on life support for two days but he had no brain activity. He was an organ donor and was able to save multiple lives with his organs. One man from Michigan got his heart and lungs and is actually great friends with TJ's parents now. And the recipient actually just this year renewed his wedding vows and TJ's dad was the one to officiate the wedding.
    This is TJ

I'm sorry to hear that Swags. But in the end, he was a giving individual and the receiving donor will forever be thankful

Thanks for sharing that. Those stories are sad, but humbling.
