we had a good may, June, and April....cant figure out why these guys don't keep product in anticipation of a shortage. I am being told by some exceedingly reliable mills that the shortage, if there is one, will occur earlier than last year (last year was February around here).....now, you can go and pish-posh this, because I am a pellet dealer, but hey, I am communicating what I know.
I'd be getting what I normally burn + 1 ton to eliminate that "shortage" possibility you spoke of. Anybody that has the $$ now, but isn't trying to get their stash in asap have issues (IMO), given what a lot of people went through last winter.
I normally put in 4 and pick some up over the winter, but had money problems. In this area by the time they come in sometimes I have to pull my pellet hauler to my cabin with the plow truck.Am planning/saving and shooting for 6 this year.
I am taking delivery of 3 tons on Saturday and I have just over one ton left over from last year. I'll be set with that. I burned less than four tons last winter. But I might try to grab another ton or so from Lowes or HD before winter sets in. Just because I can.
TSC has pellets again. $249.50, They also have a $10 off coupon. Might sneak in a ton? If the coupon was 10% off I prolly jump on them, But still checkin what else is available.
Just drove by a HD in Fishkill, NY this morning during work. They had a spray painted sign by the entrance that said "Wood pellets in stock - $239"
My local TSC is getting $250/ton now too. $240 with the coupon / discount. Typically they run a special for a couple weeks at the end of July / early August, where you can buy them for ~$210/ton. They told me they would be doing the same thing again this year. The nice thing is, you can reserve the pellets as part of this special, but you don't have to pay or pick them up until later in the season. You have until the end of October if memory serves. Right now they have about 40 tons of TSC bagged MWPs and 10 tons of Green Supremes to choose from. When the sale happens, I'll probably pick up a ton of MWPs for shoulder use.
Life got way too busy and I did not get any Spring Buy order in-this is a first for me. I did talk with my regular pellet house and the prices have gone up but only about 5 bucks a ton since Spring Buy. The good stuff is high (LaCrete is 294/ton, Spruce pointe 285/ton). He brought back Okies but even those are 300/ton and up depending on the type. I'm sitting on 75 bags of Spruce Pointe and 30 bags of Fireside, so the urgency is not all that great for me. Frankly, if I was able to get 2-3 ton of Fireside for 239/ton or less I may just go that route and waive off any more of the high price fuel this year.
Wow, here we go again. But this year I don't need to be picky. Big difference for me is my injury from Feb. still has me very limited in my mobility. So I will need to factor in my best options to get the pellets in place. I like HD because they deliver for free, but I still need to get them move into the garage. A couple other places charge for delivery but put them right where I want them. I need at least tons. This stoves burns more but the house us much warmer.
For the past two years, HD, here in Augusta Maine, has delivered 3 or more tons to me free of charge. They drop them off in front of my garage.
