Red oak even! Trees are growing over a garden area. The 2 large trunks to the left, and 3 or 4 large ones along the edge. This is at my SIL's. 5 minute drive. Her friend has a tractor, of sorts. He's planning on getting a rope/chain onto the trees and put tension on them to fall into the yard. There'll be a few of us with saws. Once down, we'll swarm over the tops. Logs will be simply piled to the side and made available to any of us to come back to cut at our leisure. A couple of different views.
Cool. Im taking the rest of the year off due to Covid19 and spend my waking hours making firewood. Whats the address? Just kidding. The propagandists have turned me into a drama queen! All kidding aside, be safe and hoard on. Did you process any of the red maple? How you feeling?
Not sure if it was red maple, it could be,but I got a face cord split and stacked. The rest is waiting on me. My next score? Hopefully! I still have a slight cough, nothing more.
I love dropping trees. A good bull rope with a nudge is great. Planning the cut for a good notch, hinge, and wedging the back cut are very important too. Stay safe and that wood should make some great firewood for all of you. Don't mean to preach, but felling trees has nothing to do with being lucky... Safety first.
Bull rope - check Chains - check Tractor to do the nudge - check Newly mixed fuel - check Felling wedges with hammer (not rubber) - check Tow ropes and tree strap/sling - check Extra pair of underwear - check Peavy/rock bar - check I spent time today hand sharpening the 2 saws I'm taking. Supposed to be a sunny day.
Game on - Tree 1 Bull rope good to go Down cutting, moving - Tree 2 Tree 3 of 3 Lots of brush We only used the bull rope to steer that first tree out in the open yard. Final pile of wood Collateral damage was kept to a minimum. Time for a shower and a beer, back home. It was nice to have a diversion for a few hours, given all the other crazy stuff going on.
Another big pile to taxi home, but, you are sharing it? That was a good day's work, great there was a tractor.
Yes, sharing. The 3rd person there, was my SIL'so other BIL. He heats with wood, like I do. So, we'll nibble away at the pile, as time allows. The tractor was a big assist in cleanup. There's other trees that could have come down, but they'll wait until leaf-out, and see which trees those are. Those trees will be addressed sometime next year.
