I'm not seeing anything odd about the headers . They're supported like they are supposed to be.
Greenboard and brownboard (Zip) is fairly common here as well .
Don't see a lot of block in housing any more though.

It's coming along nicely. So what's the plan on the chimney? Just pulling it for now and it'll go back in place?

The last few homes/additions/renovations I worked on with my dad - he did 2x12 over windows/doors on load bearing exterior walls, but like ironpony suggested- OSB sandwiched in between. Never seen the 2 by’s to fir down, but I take no offense to it. We simply installed taller windows if needed.
Great pics mike bayerl- keep them coming!

Yes. Actually, it will need to move over a few feet to make way for a door.

My parent's retirement home is on the North end of our farm. It is all one level built into a hill. When dad became power chair bound, it was a god send not having anything other than a small threshold for the chair to go over. Inside the house my youngest daughter's husband and I covered the heated floor with a floating bamboo snap together flooring. We laid it continuously throughout the home connecting each room through the doorways making it all one connected set of pieces. Anyway, I say that to ask if you are installing an elevator to get them to the other levels.

Looking very good. Life will be different once the move is done, but standing at my dad's wake, I felt at peace that we had done all we could and had the most of the time we had together. It isn't a forever thing, may feel like it some days, but there is an end and I always told myself I didn't want regrets. So a lot of schedules were changed when dad and mom would call and say, "hey, would you like to go out for supper tonight?". My wife and I know more about my parents than the other family members, which can be weird at times!, but all in all, time well spent. Good on you and your wife for taking this on.

It's going back, just a few feet over. Had to move the stove a few feet to make room for a door between the "old" house and the new addition.

BTW, I haven't mentioned yet, but the lower level will have and almost 9' ceiling, so even where the I-beam is, it will be just under 8'. The upper level will have 8-10' peaked ceiling. Both floors will have lots of very large windows and sliding glass doors on the south side, so it should be very open and light inside.

Today's progress. Also, I double-checked with the builder and the upper level ceiling will be 10'10" at the peak! Also we started moving the chimney. The stove will end up in the corner with a straight pipe. I may be loosing the outside air vent though. Will have to ponder that.

More framing on the windows and doors (no picts). Shingling roof. Framing in the upstairs bathroom as seen 20200318_105331.jpg below.

Yes, lots of progress today. All windows (big, like 36" x 66") in and roof shingled. Lots more inside framing.
