A very rare find for me, white oak. The last white oak I put in my stacks was about a year ago when my friend, neighbor and FHC member Brandon Scott, gave me a large white oak that produced a cord plus. Thankfully the Tacoma only had to go less than a half mile mile loaded to the max plus with each of 2 loads.
I'll cut more tomorrow and split later in the week.

Great grab; The King of all Firewoods! We have plenty on the property, but the Mighty Oak never dies. I have to wait for a blow-down or collateral damage from a Red Oak falling.

You can "keep on" as long as you don't break something. :picard: I would be rolling those up a board into the bed, or splitting them on the ground to where I could lift 'em without too much strain.

A neighbor cleared some land 2 years ago and had the trees pushed into a couple of piles. So I saw him the other day and ask about the trees. He said "take all you want."

It's a big mix of hackberry, red maple white and red oak. I'm beginning with the white oak and will move to the red oak when I can't get to more white. Once in a lifetime shot for me.

Hard to think it's 'once in a lifetime,' though..we have a buttload of quality hardwoods here in the 'hood. Unless you meant once in a lifetime because it was only a half-mile away...

Once in a lifetime for me because I've only been cutting ash on my property for years. Only 2 oaks and 2 shagbark trees on my place and I won't cut them. Aside from Brandon Scott, I've never been given permission to cut on anyone's property.

If it weren't for an occasional hurricane and the more recent moth damage/death I wouldn't have any white oak firewood.

My old Taco had the rock climbing suspension/skid plates, etc., and wasn't very good at hauling wood. I'd get some ribbing with it just 1/3 loaded and the bumper dragging.

We have a few more than that and we won't cut the shagbark for sure. We have 3 or 4 nice white oak that would make excellent firewood but just can't bring ourselves to even consider cutting them. We like seeing them. Sadly though, we don't get a lot of acorns from them and one in particular; I've never seen an acorn on that tree and the tree is beautiful so would like it to give enough acorns to keep that line going.

Missed thread yesterday. Love me some white oak. Great score Ralphie Boy  Gave the 661 a workout?
Is it not that common in your area or pot luck if you score some?

It's common in my area just not on my property. Just lucky to get permission to cut to a neighbor's place.

Yesterday's rounds are today's splits. I have plenty of pallets for stacking but because this oak will be stacked for 5 years before it will be used I will make a rack from pressure treated 2x4's and concrete blocks to stack on.
