It will knock off easy though. I had a big pile of dust in the big shed when it had oak and hickory in it.
About 90% of what I cut this year was pecan. If its dry it will split pretty well. If its green it ranks right up at the top with splitting elm. Does ok for firewood but definitely not in the caliber as oak and ash.
Not quite the heavy hitter? I’ve only used it in bbqs as chunks and chips in a bag but thought as a hickory family tree it would rank high.
Dont get me wrong, It does burn fairly well. Puts off a decent BTU count but doesnt burn as long or as hot as say oak, ash, locust etc.
I like that comparison, it doesn’t grow around me so I figure I have to rely on other words about its burning properties. Same deal goes for hedge, don’t know about it so gotta ask.
Oh hedge aka bois d'arc aka osage orange. We have plenty of it here. Its a nuisance more than anything. Burns extremely hot. Personally I will not burn it nor will I sell it to any of my customers for inside heat. I do enjoy burning it in the firepit or at bonfires. It puts off a good firework show day or night when its burning.
