Yeah, you should see some of the sinkhole in NE of the lower peninsula in MI. It is amazing how deep some of them go. I remember one time also going to a farmer's place and while I was there he was out spreading manure in the field right close to the house and barn. Tractor did okay but just as the wheels of the spreader went over this one spot, a sinkhole opened up. Almost lost the spreader! He laughed about it.
Why didn’t they keep a better eye on Timmy after the first time? “I know, we’ll have the dog watch Timmy”
Is there any old mines in the area? In this area there used to be coal mines everywhere...so much so that the HO insurance companies recommend having "mine coverage" for sinkholes...I think it is just included on our policy. Anyways, I know they commonly used timbers/RR ties to shore up the mine shafts...wouldn't be surprised to see them "close it up" with timbers too...
Look at the bright side Chaz , if nothing else, this looks like it might be a good start to a storm shelter...
Good stuff guys. Not sure that the old septic is where I want my SHTF bunker. (although rather apropos) I've found two edges so far.
Mmmmm popcorn One scoop at a time. Try to figure if I can yank the rotting RR ties, or bust/cut and bury them. If I bury them, there will be future sinkage, but no hole to fall into.
