B4BD07EC-FD29-470E-A6C0-6FA12EB85AFB.jpeg Recently my wife said she heard a strange sound then noticed water dripping from the pressure relief valve. I have changed out the valve it didn’t change anything. I am wondering if the noise she heard was the bladder in the gray tank?

My dad has this system installed about 10 years ago. The guy that installed it was a complete hack and now is out of business. No body wants to work on it as it’s a blue flame( whatever that means). Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

    What's your system pressure at?
    Has it changed recently?
What pressure is the relief rated at?

Check your expansion tank to see what the pre-charged pressure is.. or If it has failed. Too low pressure or failed tank can allow extra water in the system making it susceptible to over pressure..

You probably know this but the areas with green moss on copper is where it’s leaking.. And I would probably rule out your pressure tank first. As they are designed to leak went over pressure

I’m going to check the pressure in the tank

Looks like the pressure gauge is reading slightly above 20 psi

Thanks, the one with the green moss is an issue but it’s not the one leaking on the floor.

Thanks for the help guys! I have a helper here at the moment working in splitting some wood if I don’t respond quickly it’s because I’m running the splitter.

Check the boiler feed valve to make sure the "low pressure" (cold) is normal, also.

Im guessing the expansion tank is flooded

Would water have come out of the valve when he tested the pressure on the expansion tank? I figured if the bladder failed, that would have happened.

Try to pinpoint the source of the leak. 20 psi is fine.

    Hello
Looks like a Buderus Boiler with the DHW tank under the boiler and probably the Buderus Controller. That is the normal install, just looks different, I have the Buderus boiler with the Tekmar Controller and Super Store 40 Gallon DHW tank with lifetime warranty. My DHW tank leaked at the bottom after 10 years so I got a new $1200.00 tank for $50 processing fee.
I heat with wood pellets so I only use the boiler for the DHW in the winter because I buy the oil in the spring or summer when the price of oil is cheap. Then I have an ECO smart instant electric on demand hot water panel to heat the hot water in the summer when the electricity is cheaper than the oil,
So check the bottom of your DHW tank for leaking due to it’s age.

Easy to change that pressure valve (probably have to drain the boiler) or
Put a pan under the pipe and wait for the heating guy to come. :)

Yeah that looks like that is it. Sometimes crud gets caught and it can't seal properly. A new one will be cheap and easy to replace.

I thought I read that. Well, it's obviously leaking, replaced or not. Well unless it's something going over psi. If it goes over 30 ps ever, then it would do that.
