Picked up the last 11 bags of Fireside Platinums that HD had (well, what they had out - I wasn't going to ask if they had more to get 4 more bags). I had a 10% off coupon so got them for $5.38 per bag. The P43 really likes them so figured I couldn't go wrong even though I'll probably hold onto them until next year.

Didn't work, thx for trying to help out.
Your suggestion has some appealing message written between the lines.
I was hoping it was so simple.

After a nice day with a high temp of 63* (per my weather station), the snow is actually starting to melt. The paths have been mostly ice free since 2/28 , except the north side of the house. Since we actually had sun today for a change, the front yard lost a good amount of snow (full sun in afternoon). Been taking pictures since last week, and there hasn't really been much change until today. These pics were taken evening of 2/28

Note the path still had more ice closer to the pen - out of the shot.

These are from just before 5 pm this afternoon. Ignore the pile along the ramp as that is roof dumpage. Everything else is the natural snowfall. And yes, I do snow blow a water drainage path along the side of the pen and along the edge of the trees.

No ice in the path  - this is the north side of the house

Yesterday was a lovely day, sunny and brisk.

I got to work on the Cat project.

Decided to yank the axles out and see if they can be shortened and re-splined

    Got the Right one out.

Full of water and yucky mess.

The bearing was busted ????????????? strange to see this kind of damage though.

    No rust....a good thing.

After finding that I can't shorten the shafts I looked into replacing them with axles from a smaller sibling cat......THE COST IS OFF THE SCALE.....$3000 PER SET

Decided to leave the cat wide and if I want to move it....just get a trip permit....

This is going to make the entire project much less labor intense.

The actual $$$ savings may be in the many hundreds of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

A few pix from yesterdays goings on...

Check with Moser Engineering or Strange Engineering or someone that specializes in custom made axles, its worth a shot since you have the originals.

    I called them already.
They do not have the forgings the right size they said.
Anyway, I am gonna just leave it a fat cat and save the extra $$$$

The local farmers bring their huge tractors through town from time to time, and these bad boys are big suckers...the big tri track units that bend in the middle....and drag 5 acres of tools on the back.

Only time I will likely move it off the property is when we get snow, and maybe to a local car show...

The fat butt cat is more cool anyway.....

The last couple of days have been in the high 30's and low 40's, but the sun and wind devastated the snow and it is making a rapid retreat. Main floor stove has barely run in the last 36 hours (last time I filled it) - and that only a couple of times at night. The basement stove is still going thru a bag a day and enough heat bleeds upstairs that with the sun it keeps the office (where the stat is) on the high side of 68 - it trips at the lower side.

Last night I filled 7, 40-pound kitty litter pails with sand from the dump (the town provides a pile of sand for residents). Immediately put that sand to use by filling in the muddy ruts to the tent garage. I'll go get more sand today - some for the ruts and some for the storm that may show up this weekend.
