It stopped raining earlier today so I used the 4540 to scrape some slush off the ice on the driveway, I had done that for about five minutes and mother nature opened up the faucet again but I finished the job and then came in by the fire. They're calling for 0.44 inches of rain so the driveway will be all ice tomorrow.
Things were a bit icy this morning after all the rain, I used 10 bags of tube sand with the sander (Sundown 180) on the back of the tractor. The first picture is before and the last two are after.
After having three cars stuck on the driveway in the last 36 hours. I’m half tempted to put a sign at the end saying. If you don’t know how to drive park at the top
We have the same ones here I've seen. Been looking at a land pride. The thing with these & sand, there are bridging issues, which I've found a fix for the agitator and the second problem was the spread was too fast, causing half the sand to fly into the woods. A fix for that was taking off or leaving just 1 fin on the spreader wheel. This allows the sand to stay in a smaller radius while keeping a decent speed going. Have you found any of these issues at the beginning for yours? If so, any suggested fixes? Be nice to fertilize and seed with it in the summer too.
I did only have one gate open today and the sundown 180 has a shield you can raise or lower to stop the sand from going all over.
It's raining pretty good tonight so I might need something on the driveway again but this time I might just hand spread pellet and wood stove ash. Friday we have someone coming in to install a propane line for the new stove,it will come off the 3/4 inch Wardflex that goes to the propane fireplace. I'll save some sand for Friday morning.
The company that we get our propane from didn't have a guy who was certified to deal with the Wardflex line we have. I called the company and they gave us some names of a few companies in this area that are, one we had do some work so we went with them.
Yesterday I used the sander on the 4540 to put three bags of tube sand on the driveway where the wife walks, at first I wasn't sure how I would like the sander but the more I use it the better I like it. Tomorrow we'll put the snowmobiles back on the trailer, we only used them twice this year.
We're down to sand/ dirt here now. I got up early to bring wood into the house with the bota before the ground thawed. Sap is flowing
Our driveway is pretty dang good for this time of year, usually we'll be all ice until late March. This weeks weather should clear or shell up what's left.
Later this afternoon I took the 4540 with the plow and cleared out some snow that was making the water run across the driveway, hopefully with the rain coming in the water will stay on that side until it reaches the woods.
Today I took the Stihl trimmer/weedeater and did the area where I bucked up some White Pine, after I was done the Mahindra 4540 was used to move the rounds where I'll split them. The 4540 is dusty with a nice coat of pollen so it's time for a quick rinse and wash.
I've been splitting with the 20 ton MTD but tomorrow I'll use the American CLS 24 ton (pictured) it needed a new carb according to the guy who went through it after I had a problem with it, tomorrow will be the first day running it since it was fixed. They changed the splitter oil, hydraulic fluid and filter after putting in the new carb. I did check the fluids once I brought it home (all was good) and it started up fine but tomorrow we'll see how it splits.
