Found this 261 today, P&C are very nice and started on 3 pulls. I also got 3 used (up) chains with it. Should clean up fairly well. Here it is with the 272 XP I picked up over Memorial Day (which still needs to be cleaned).
Put a 262XP piston in the 261, then run it. It will put a smile on your face and no ache in your back.
Welcome to FHC KilliansRedLeo!! I suspect your a fan of the older "2" series Husq models! The 262, 272, 288 are all highly desirable models that I wouldn't mind owning myself
Dual port the muffler, use the three shoe 262 clutch, use three bond for a base gasket, and replace the 144 carb with a Walbro HDA-87 (if you can find one). Smile some more!
Well all manufacturer's make good saws, some are just different to work on than others. I build or restore all kinds of saws for my customers but mostly HVA and Dolmar. As you can see in the Avitar I go back a long way with Husqvarna, that photo was taken in 1975 when I was a HVA sponsored rider.
The 261 and 262 share the same bore and stroke 48x34mm or 62cc the main difference is that the 261 has a dished piston and the 262XP has a flat top pisto giving it more compression. The very first models did not have a Mahle C/P they used a Kolben/Schmidt which had a slightly smaller combustion chamber and even higher compression.
If you happen to have a Husqvarna 261 and would like to convert it to a full blown 262XP, here is a link to a document I wrote a while back that walks you through the entire process. http://sdrv.ms/KmwjFQ
