Talked with a couple guys in town who own one so broke down and picked this up yesterday Seemed to do a nice job on the Echo last night and will do some cutting today to see how it worked?
I prefer the progressive style raker gauges. There’s a really good article on the why and how, I’ll have to dig it up.
I got a Chinese copy off eBay about a year ago. Seems to work well. It does what it's supposed too. I have never used a Stihl brand one so I have no comparison. It cost about $14 shipped to the house. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
This article by Carlton touches on progressive raker maintenance . http://gepkolcsonzo.eu/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/complete-book.pdf
oh Loon you are a tease and i fell for it i thought you came to your senses ,by the way i have been using those 2 in 1 file tools for a few years and have been very happy with them
They're a good tool to have out in the field, especially when I'm using the Alaskan mill and the chain needs touched up, makes quick work of it. I keep one in the truck toolbox. I still prefer my Dremel and stones when I'm in the shop though.
If you don't have a Pferd ( errrrr....Stihl ) 2in1 in the field you will be barred from chainsaw use until corrected. Those Germans engineer some fine tools.
Most complete article on chains....well done and thx. I'll use it in one of my programs ( stihl prefer the Pferd for hand sharpening ).
That's it, thank you. Page 19 and 20 were very eye opening for me. This video accompanies that article well as the file-o-plate is creating an angle. It all makes perfect sense when you wrap you head around it. When you follow and use the method, your chain cutting performance will increase.
The video is outta my league Wolve. The Stihl sharpener is the best tool i have bought in a long time! The chain was brand new awhile back and i handed the saw to the young lad who's been helping and within 2 seconds he had it in the dirt. Ran the file 5 strokes each and will give it a light 3 stroke before i go back up again today.
Wood is correct on depth gauge both angle and depth. BuTT--the Pferd 2in1 only does .25 and is 'flat' filed. That's always been fine for me in most cutting on Stihl RS chains ( not for those anti kickback depth gauge chains ). Interesting YouTube butt complex for Dumf's like me.
Maybe some day again Fess? BIL has a couple that he is going to give me as i'm the only one left in the family that Stihl cuts.
You can avoid getting in trouble for that by telling your wife “ No problem ! It’s not messing up the table .I cleaned the big parts in the dishwasher ,and I’m cleaning the carb in one of those pots on the stove . Could you check to see if it’s boiling yet ? “ YMMV ...
