Niiiiiice wood sir! I hear ya on the storage issues and big trunks. Iv left a couple behind. They make lots of splits for sure but my back really frowns on them. Better to have gotten some than none at all and you took the primo straight grained stuff. Those 40" rounds bucked to length do split fairly easy. Ive split big knot free oak with the Fiskars and Isocore without a problem.
When I looked at the second picture with the trailer I thought the weight of the huge rounds was lifting the front axle of the trailer off the ground, then I realized it was the mounted spare tire. Still an impressive load.
This oak was in the middle of a stand of gum trees. I turn that wood away. Can have all I want but oak just splits and stacks and burns sooooooo perfectly.
I cut a 28 inch pin oak last fall (green) and that almost more this old man could handle. Loaded the rounds with a tractor, splitting it vertical beat me up. Too bad you cant process it one way or another, you would have to quarter it be able to handle it by hand.
Man o man. I’d simply HAVE to go get that. I’d start going higher with my stacks... must not let it go .....
I have access to a splitter there that goes vertical but without a saw bigger than 18” it’s too much to cut through. Trust me I’ve thought through all of this already. I’m heading over there in a half an hour to buck up the smaller stuff. I’ll post more pics later.
Wait for a good wind from the south, toss it in the sound with miniature sails on each one, then call Brad and tell him to be on the look out. Seriously though, almost a crime to cut that into firewood. Somebody should have bought in a sawmill.
Those are the reason I have a 084 with a 42"-48" bar ( can't remember which). one of 79xx Dolmars has a 30"+ bar on it also. i have bucked up items like that down to people size if no other options
Sounds like space is his biggest problem. This wouldn't have worked for me if I didn't have permission from the land owner to do basically what ever I want. No room at home for this much wood.
I have always felt you get enough wood out of the big pieces to make it worthwhile, in some ways its faster then the smaller stuff.
$300 a cord seasoned. I have an 18” Stihl. My other guys have the same. Plus we all have 3 or so cords at our houses. One buddy has space and we store rounds at another guys house but we have over 100 there and all maxed out. The issue is space. I’m Putting aside the choicest rounds to drive up to my parents when my new truck comes in a week. They have years worth of ash but little oak
