I went to a local pawn shop today and found in the roto bin 3 bit and bace drills. I purchased all 3 for $12 out the door! One is a Dunlap no model on it the other two are Stanley NO 923 6" models and all three ratchet. The store owner said he used an entire bottle of WD40 to get them working again. They work great so now I am going to fully restore them. From what I found the Stanley was made from 1905 to 1984 so I don't know the exact year. The middle one is in very rough shape. Somebody used pliers on the chuck at some point so ill ave to see if I can take it apart and hopefully theres no internal damage to the jaws.
That's cool! I have a Dunlap. It was my dad's...so it is as old or older than me. It has been in his tool box as long as I can remember. It doesn't have any model number on it. Just has DUNLAP and Germany stamped on it. I just used it last week. Drilled counter sink holes for bolt heads on my second flip top cabinet.
This one doesn’t have anything other than dunlap cold stamped on it. I wonder if it came from Germany. I know Dunlap was a sears brand but that’s about all I know.
That sounds right. Most of my dad's tools were Craftsman. Life time guarantee. Here is another cordless screw driver. My dad wore these out. I can remember twice, him taking them back to the Sears store. Showed the guy they were worn out. No questions asked......took a new one off the shelf and handed it to him. It's in his tool box, under my workbench. Still works.
Yes, it used to be that is how everyone drilled the hole for tapping. I've done it too but many, many moons ago.
