Hi Jill! I hope all goes well with Chaz's felling. I hope he posts about it. When will there be logs from the gas pipeline that he can get?

I hope the felling goes well also.
Don't know exactly when they will be coming. Last fall they were up there trimming some top branches on both sides of the pipeline. But they are only taking trees down on the west side of the pipeline. We were told possibly this year or next. So it is a waiting game. They will probable just come in and go to work. We will probably hear them before see them. Last year they came from the back side of the hill, which isn't ours.

It was so quiet this morning. There was an eagle making it's calls shortly after sunrise. That was the only sound I could hear, except for the light hiss of my propane stove.

It sure will speed up the process. I have so much wood on the ground close by but it is tough to get it out when we have mud season all winter long. I hated to buy a load of wood but this will get me far enough ahead that I wont feel rushed getting all of the other stuff out.

Good Morning. We are relaxing after church today with a homemade turkey dinner with the family.

I usually buy a frozen turkey on sale after Thanksgiving to make afterwards since we enjoy it so much.

I put a piece of poplar on a bed of coals and it fired right up.

This is good, as I have about a cord of it. Looks like it'll be poplar for the next month or two. With some denser wood overnight.

    Yes.
I burned several cords of poplar over the last 4 years. I mostly saved it for afternoon fires when it really cold (12 hour cycle isn't enough) and/or SS.

Good morning all. Been up and getting coffee in me:coffee:. Gonna be a sunny day high in the upper 40's. Heading to my locust score so the quest is on. Been neglecting my main PA and will do some stacking today and maybe split a little hickory.

I just got back from the lake pulling the spear shack rather than waiting for tomorrow after work. I brought along a frozen squirrel from earlier garden population control and set it out 50 yards from shack. I turned from my work just in time to see a big bald eagle come in and grab it off the ice with it's talons without missing a wing beat. Then it flew along the tree line on shore to the nest. With the sun illumination of the white/jet black contrast in colors against the forest background it was very striking! No phone picture, which wouldn't have done it any justice anyways, but it is etched in my mind.

    Awesome!
I've spent many days in the quest for eagle pics. Even expensive cameras and big lenses sometimes don't do them justice...
Maybe try keeping the bait a bit closer or even anchor it a bit to keep it there longer
