I filled the truck again today, beautiful out for the last few days so it’s a “Yes please” to hoarding. We have some Paper in the back, but the other is what’s needing a closer look at. I had asked the owner who hired the tree services, no answer. Looks like we’re in some kinda fruitwood but what exactly? Would any fruitwood experts help tie this one up? There was...a lot more on this pick up than I could handle or rather my truck...she’s ok with sitting a bit. But when the drive is 95% highway and a further pick up than I usually do, it’s a safety thought...
Hmm, hard to say, considering it's a fruit wood. That said, all fruit wood is great high BTU wood. Now it typically all sucks to split. That's all I've determined.
Usually it’s not bad to split by the piston but it twists often so it’s not a flat split. That’s just been most of my experience with it. I like the idea that if its fruit i can use it on the bbq without issue.
I’ve had apple look like this, it seems to be in mid-ridging where the bark is beginning to take to scale-like texture.
Did it have any smell when you cut it? Dark color makes me want to guess apricot. But that’s the only fruit tree I’ve ever cut. Took 2 out of my yard a couple years ago. It’s Awesome in the smoker
I’m looking to cut some a bit fresh today, glad you reminded me of that trick. I actually didn’t think to smell it when I grabbed it but every time I find wood for smoking it’s wood for two passions. I’m usually fine with any kind of wood.but the bbq wood is great because it’s wood for dual purposes. Looks like a bit of rot in some of the heartwood, no matter. It will encourage me to split it smaller as I often build the fire big (sorta) and then add a little at a time.
The only apple I ever had, once split was beautiful and was very obvious why it is so prized for making furniture. Still have some for the smoker.
Just thinking about smoking chicken and pork this summer with some apple.... Geez Lawieeze. Making me Hungry now.
