I didn't get done nearly what I wanted to today, but only six rounds of huge white oak and heavy. Could only fit 2 in the wagon at a time, and was time consuming due to a boulder section that can be hard to negotiate. The heavy winds kept me out of the woods until this evening. During the hauling, I broke the valve stem on 1 if the trailer tires, so that ended the fun. I have another 6 rounds to get out.
Nice job, see you kept the Grizzly up right. Why not pull the splitter back there and turn those into more manageable sizes?
Nice! Gotta love white oak and those are beautiful looking rounds. I can relate to how heavy they are too....
I can get the splitter back only so far due to a boulder outcrop. Sometime I will work on another trail, but this would be an undertaking. Currently the trail through it negotiates over 4 boulders around a turn between large ones, sticking out of the ground up to 8 inches. If there is snow packed down and its cold enough, I have managed to get the splitter back there.
I need to finish up multiple white oaks back a ways. I need to buy a tub wagon from tsc soon and get it done. Very heavy rounds. I estimate each weighed in at around 125 lbs+ I barely got them in the wagon, lol.
If they were much bigger, you wouldn't have got them in or out of the wagon or pulled your back or busted something important. That's very cool you have more white oak left to get. I have a dead standing one, but it's pretty deep in the woods and it will be a lot of work to get it out. I hate to pass on it though.....
Glad you are taking it easy , & only fighting 125 lb rounds into the trailer/wagon. You roll/tumble them in with some kind of ramp ? Possible to drive in a log spike & drag them one at a time thru the boulders ? Make a dray & drag them out, 3/4 plywood on a couple of old 2x4s, 4x4 ..., strap them on ? No lifting Premium BTU wood there. Lots of oak scores this month. Oak every where . Well everywhere but Alaska
These are some things I'd love to make. Some spikes would be awesome. Ill need to do an online search for a set of them.....
The dray didn't take much. chain saw an angle on the front of a 2...... 2/4x4, or log & nail on a piece of plywood. Campinspector has some logging spikes with a nice eye to hook to. Log/rafting dogs I think they are called. I couldn't find them for sale online ? Best I found was this : http://qdbrightfuture.en.makepolo.com/products/forged-rafting-dog-p22227928.html
Thanks Dave, your always one to give a hand and we all appreciate that! I am currently making a list (long one) of stuff that needs to be fixed, repainted, cleaned, and build around the homestead. Ill be adding that one to it since i have all of the materials laying around. Another quick build, mainly for branches will be a sawbuck, "if" you happen to have a pic or two laying around.
Found a nice one with "how to" step by step pics : http://www.firewood-for-life.com/sawbuck-plans.html
