New Wood Racks

Here are the wood racks I picked up at TSC on their ground hog day sale. I had to put a shim under one side to make it level with the hearth. I would not have paid the $37.99 original price but for $21.00 they aren't bad.

Now to address those that will say I shouldn't stack wood beside the stove. I have done it many times and the wood has never gotten hot. I can place my bare hands on the metal rack and it is just warm. I am stacking where the side heat shields are located. Now in front of the stove where the glass is the hearth can get pretty warm so I wouldn't place wood there outside of loading the stove.

 

Look nice but seems a wee bit close to the stove, no?

 

I have filled the entire area around my stove WITH PINE and my home is still standing I think your good

 

Maybe, I guess I will find out. I have stacked wood on both sides of the stove before without the racks, criss crossing the wood up level to the top of the stove.

 

I guess i do sound a little reckless there but im obviously not touching the stove but close by. My wife is home all day too so that does make a difference. Im willing to bet that theres been fires so for the sake of being overly safe i wouldnt leave the house with wood on top of my stove.

 

The heat shields do a good job. The back side of the wall doesn't get hot even with the stove running continuously. I think the same will be for the side heat shields as well. I have an infra-red thermometer so I can check the temperature of the wood and post that information.

I keep all my flammables close to the wood stove, makes for a pretty fire.

 

Well Kimberly I like your racks. You can always put a piece of sheet metal over that one end of the rack and that would shield the wood.
But if your not worried then looking good. How many days worth can you get in there.

 

What are your clearances for the sides of the stove, had a stove with shields on it and no way is it that close.

 

Man, just looked again and that wood is way close!

 

The negative responses are the reason more ladies don't post pictures of their racks on here.

Wood too close to the stove, and the burning of pine in a stove argument will never die. I have kept a stack next to my stove for 3 seasons now. I will probably get a sheet of cement board to shield that side, but still never gets more than 120 degrees with stove going full bore.

 

I have a Pacific Energy stove with the air gap side shields and I can lay my hand on them during operation of the stove , too. The racks look very nice and if you have checked it all out for safety and are comfortable with the system you have going there then I would say keep up the good work!
