Dad let his muffler screws get loose and worn. The shop says they need to put together $250 plus worth of parts before they’ll send in their next parts order. I’m not doing too well googling for these - I’m finding muffler screws but not specific to the 271. Any suggestions (other than fixing the darn thing before it gets to this point!)?

    Part #26 on the diagram.

    26) 9075 478 4085 - Stihl Pan head self-tapping screw IS-D5x18

    So, part number 9075 478 4085

IS-D5x18 looks to be that size. 18mm? D5, don't know what that is, or IS. Usually it's a metric and it would be m5 or similar.

I'll see if I can find these...

I don't recommend self tapping screws even if OEM replacements. The hole already has threads so that parts done. Self tapping screws have special features that reduce their effectiveness as a fastener. Some have a trilobular shape that only makes contact at 3 points and others have a groove ect.

    Good point.

    Maybe try a shcs in m5 x18??

I think that's what the Amazon link I linked was. Not self tappers, or so it appears.

Not sure if you have a Lowes store close by but they have a good selection of metric specialty screws. I thinks 2 packs are around a $1. Take an old one along. Wish you were closer. i have a can full of used misc. stihl screws my dealer gives me.

Usually when the screws are worn to the point that they fall out the holes in the cylinder are damaged I usually end up putting Heli-coil inserts in the holes if the holes are ok close up picture of the old screw I have drawers full of screws for stihl saws to many different models I will put some in a envelope for you JB

Thanks for the offer! The saw is in Maine and I’m not- they are trying to get wood cut and moved across a very wet piece of ground while it is frozen, so I’ve ordered them already. I was trying to get them by the weekend but realized when you are retired like dad is, every day is the weekend.

Going out on a commercial limb recommending Ellsworth Chainsaw, Ellsworth, Maine .
They are the go-to place for Stihl, Husky and all brands for saws, repairs, parts, older saws, and help with a fix if DIY. Real pros.
Loggers, arborists, foresters, and serious WW's like me have used them for decades. Ask for Roger or Put.
