Haha. Today I did a little scouting near the woman’s house. Had a feeling this spot might be a winner as I had walked my dog in these woods. Long before I knew what BL was. Sure enough there’s BL in there. Right on the side of 95. Thinks Buzzsaw Brads latest score was on a highway too. One down. Who knows, maybe I’ll come snag it up some day. Girlfriend was snapping the pics. There’s more in there than in the photos. One down in a pretty deep gully. Not sure I could get that if I wanted. At least I finally found some growing in the wild.
I have been searching as well. Found a small grove in a local town park. Nothing down at the moment but will keep an eye on it. There are five bigger older Locust near the entrance that will likely come down before any in the pics. Brother has obtained permission to cut downed trees there in the past. The search continues.
Well that’s good you have permission. The one I posted is on a main road and the cops in that area would probably be all over anyone cutting there.
Missed this thread Joe. Yup, thats locust. Seems like its never in an easy spot to get. The ash i scored was on a state highway. Interstates can be scary to scrounge from unless you can get well off the road and the wood is already cut as well. The current spot im cutting locust is a local road with a nice spot for me to get far enough off the road with the flashers going. The next spot is a bit tricky...blind curve on a country road. I work em a little at a time. Still none in your area Joe?
Nope, havent spotted any anywhere near me yet. Got a lot of fake locust. Sassafras This spot is near an underpass on I 95. Less than a mile from the woman’s house. She usually visits me not vice versa. Next time I’m down there I’ll actually stop and look around a little better. Guardrails are a big no no for me. Cut a rope fast and possibly get blamed for damaging state/town property. This area drops down into a 40 foot deep and steep ravine. I know there’s another locust laying down there as I drove around to the other side. I could get the one that’s down in the pic. Memory serves there’s an old chain link fence laying in the weeds. That may be a problem winching. Pull it up and get blamed for knocking it down One of the main roads that leads to the towns PD. Heavily traveled by everyone including cops. While I’ve never had any interaction with them they don’t seem the friendliest force. All drive Dodge Charger interceptors and wear mirrored sunglasses. Used to stare at me just walking my dog and never once waved back. Not a lot of Andy Griffith blood on that force.
The things we'll do for firewood, but this is locust Joe! The score i'm working is state/town land. Ive been limiting my visits to less than an hour, but went for an hour and a half on Saturday. Weekends lessen my chances of getting caught by DPW.
