But with the funny picture thread the topics are not segregated. So if you were just looking for funny pictures you had to scroll through, as you mentioned, gun & hunting ones. If it is occasional and funny it is fine. But when they become daily commentary on subjects that are currently a national discussion, especially if that commentary is not presented in a funny or light hearted fashion, it probably will offend some members. A thread should be created to discuss those issues, within the guidelines of the board, so everybody can decide if they want to participate. I joined this board to discuss firewood, wood stoves, and related topics when the previous board got too PC. I enjoy most of the threads in Fireside Chat & Everything Else Off Topic and like to relax there. If I want to discuss a contentious issue I will go to a forum that is dedicated to it/them. Just my 2ยข KaptJaq
And if you were to anyway or post one that was in that proverbial expansive grey area I would like to think that any or all adults on the forum who it either offended or thought it might be offensive would have the courage to mention their concern or opinion instead of being a coward and having moderators do their "dirty work" for them.
You said it perfectly. Ever since the thread was closed, I've wondering why everyone thinks it is a matter of offending someone. This forum has only a few rules, and some of those rules were getting broken regularly in The Other Funny Pictures Thread. Some members who have been around here longer than I have can correct me if I'm wrong; wasn't this website formed to get away from the drama and politics on other firewood sites? Myself and Eric VW and a few others used to give a friendly reminder that political and inappropriate content was not allowed. I can speak for myself when I say I was never offended by it. I even enjoyed some of the taboo postings. But I also remembered the original Funny Pictures thread and how it got shut down. I really and truly enjoyed both those threads, and I didn't want to see the second one get shut down too. I stopped trying eventually because people played it off as a joke and said I was thin-skinned. It's an election year. If the moderators allow political content to be posted, then it's just a matter of time before some jerk with a different outlook finds this site and brings all their friends just to kick the hornet's nest. Then we'll be mired in arguments and name calling and our precious FHC will no longer be the place we all love. It's late. I'm rambling. I should have just said DaveGunter is right and left it at that. Whatever.
The moderators have an area here, where they discuss various topics among themselves. And... if there was some way that they could communicate their decisions and why, which would be non-debateable, then everyone can learn and move forward from it.
That would require placing value on the opinions, worth and sensibilities of the minions. Good luck with that.
Well, I have had the opportunity of meeting some of the moderators, multiple times. Decent folks, IMO.
