It’s been a long time coming but I now have both legs of my 2-saw plan. I picked up the 550xp about a month ago and have been waiting for the opportunity to go get big brother. He came back with me as I was in Reno for the weekend watching my oldest son play basketball. They replaced a 555 and a ms271 that have served me well but a new era (for me) has begun. I took a shot at the autotune in the 555 and absolutely loved it but wanted just a little more saw for when I ran into some big pine, juniper and fir as well as the intent of doing some decorative milling. I will be going out in the morning with just the 550 cuz I am waiting for my Tsumura LW 20” bar to go on the 572. I’ll post pics tomorrow.
That 572 will rip with a 24 or 28 inch bar if your so inclined ! I been a wanting a 572 or meebe a Stihl 462, I you tubed some ported 572 vids and boy they sound flat angry.
Most of time I do go south near Bald Mtn Mine but today I am going to go south of Wells. R u in the Elko area?
I do have a 24” Versacut bar from Oregon coming. But I think the 20” b&c will be my go to just because the majority of tree size around here isn’t all that big.
That 572 gonna scream with a 20 inch bar on it. I had a 550 for a couple years, those saws will pull a 20 inch bar in pine with no issues.
Now, just buck it up an load. About 2/3 of a cord in about 3 hours. Lots of packing logs over 100 yds. Feels great to get out again.
Not from Elko but I was through there last spring. Had dinner at that Basque restaurant, the Star ? Great steak.
Yeah, great place for dinner! Their steak quality isn’t what it once was but still darn good. If you leave there hungry(as with any Basque restaurant) it’s your own fault.
I have never handled a ported saw so I don’t what that is like but I find myself smiling all the same. That thing must rip! Wow!
