No fire overnight, was 75 in the house 55 outside. Like most, it’s coming down tonight Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Burning 2 year old oak/maple/and a mix of birch and other New England hardwoods. 30'F all this past week and hardly any snow left in the area of North Central Massachusetts on the NH border. I did a inventory of my burning for the season, with an admitted break of 2 weeks in January after my Jan 7th total left knee replacement, I think I have only burned about 2 cords or slightly less since Nov 2019. Burning 24X7 on the main floor Woodstock Fireview. Only intermittent burning downstairs in the Absolute, it just hasn't been that cold. My burning season usually ends by end of March, so this will be a low wood usage year if this trend continues.
No fire overnight again. Got down to 21 at the house and now I have a fire going. Looks like it will be cool enough this week to keep the fire going 24/7
Our warm spell is gone now. We can see some bare ground now as there is not much snow left except where it was shoved. When we go out in the open away from the woods the ground has been bare for a while. Now they say we won't get above freezing until the weekend but no serious cold on the way. Maybe 2-3" of snow tonight or tomorrow.
30* out at 11 am.. 74* inside burning ash and birch.. I read about all these warm temperatures and I want to go for a drive south.. in short my grounds still white and my driveway is still icy and more snow is coming Thursday into Friday. My brother stopped by yesterday before dark as his grandson had a basketball game in neighboring town. He lives just outside Burlington and says “ wow you got enough snow for snowmobiles”. Yup
I was splitting wood in a T shirt 2 days ago. Now it’s 12F degrees. Got about 8” of snow last night. Got some ash rolling in the Jotul. Gonna go plow the driveway!
16f now but the wind is cutting into if when you're outside. Just may have to ight off the el dorado in the basement and watch some Netflix!
I'd love to get some Pinion, I want to get a couple permits from the local BLM office and go find some to cut,as everyone around here that has it wants to sell it for $300 a cord...
NVhunter Wood is at a premium right now, it goes for $250 per cord in late spring and summer here if you can find seasoned wood. It certainly is a good time to cut your own, no snakes and no fire danger..... BLM and USFS is the best bet for dead and down wood...... Truck loads of Tamarack goes for around $1100. for 10 cords in summer and fall.
To think I was outside splitting and moving wood in shirt sleeves yesterday. Woke up to *52 this morning. Presently *34. Predicted low tonight *27. This weeks predictions *23 lowest and *40 highest. Stove is chugging away on some of last spring Ash. Moved some 2 year maple inside since it is going to get a little colder.
I hope your knee is healing well! Good you got a mild winter with not much ice & snow to hobble around on.
Never seen bundles of Pinyon for sale here before. I've heard it's dying off where drought is bad? $9.48 a bundle.
26 this morning, a dusting of snow and a winter weather advisory. Ash to start the day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
10°f here, warming up to the low 40's with clear skies and wind 10 to 15mph out of the north. Burning alligator juniper.
