Finally completed my safety equipment with a pair of Stihl chaps for $35 off CL. Crazy thing is they were literally 1/2 block from my house. I’ve never seen the dark blue ones, but I kind of like them.
Really great deal. Since I paid at least a C note for mine but I’d rather pay that for safety. You did great!
Nothing wrong with that ; especially from CL. A lot of knuckle-heads on there these days so to get a deal like that close to home is a winner.
Nice find. There are bargains to be found. Sometimes its a matter of timing and persistence! Cool that it was that close!
Thanks for posting this. Just checked CL and found a pair of chaps nearby for $35 used. Look to be in good shape by pictures. Banged off an e-mail. Hope this works out! Nice job on your new ones!
You probably will never need those chaps. But if you’re not wearing them and bury your chain in your leg, you’ll regret not wearing them. They are a good insurance policy. I have an old orange pair. Not only are they decent cut protection - but they keep your jeans from getting too beat up lifting logs into the truck etc.
And they soak up bar oil when that stupid over engineered and redesigned Stihl flippie cap isnt on properly after you refill with oil. Don't ask me how but I do know this for a fact.
Good deal. They will definitely help, nice to have on if you are wading in thick brush or briars too. Hot is the summer though.
X2 ^^^ Way too many thornbushes around here. But the chaps definitely help. Great bargain Dakota Hoarder
I’ve got the orange ones also. I’ve lost the destructions but I think I remember they’re machine washable. Haven’t tried that. Not sure why I would.
Same I have the Pro orange version. Really next thing I need is the helmet and if they’ve got a vest version of the safety jacket that would be cool. Nice to stay cool in the summer.
Yeah those are them. I knew it said something under the Stihl. ProMark They get warm in the warm months. That’s my con. The rest is all Pros. Easy to get on and off, easy to adjust, great windbreaker on the atv, great protection in the thicket like Chaz says. I’ve had these for about 10 years, maybe less. And I know I paid 90 beans cuz I was out with the family when I got them and the War Department said she didn’t care.
Yes I’m looking forward to protection my work jeans. It doesn’t take to long to ware holes in them and my MIL is getting tired of fixing them. Didn’t think about keeping the brush and burs out, but that will be nice to. Not looking forward to wearing in the summer, jeans are hot enough the way it is!!
Washing them rejuvenates their protective qualities-it fluffs and restricts an invasive bar intrusion and actually stops the chain dead in its track-great find, great deal and thousands less than an emergency room visit-if you dont cut a femoral artery first——an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure-...dont be that guy, wear PPE! You’re only so tough til you need a tourniquet my friends, just remove the risk as your family expects you home
Meeting the guy today. Says they are standard issue Forest Service chaps so should be ok. I was worried they were some super cheap knock off. Figure for the price I can't go wrong. Dakota Hoarder thanks again for putting this bee in my bonnet!
I definitely would not have even thought about any PPE if not for all the good people here on FHC! Now I’m pretty set less steel toes in my boots. So metalcuttr we both need to thank this great group!!
Very true! It's good to know that folks are watching out for us. I did pick up those chaps. Seller was a Fire Fighter from McChord AF Base. Seemed really nice. Kept calling me Sir and seemed concerned that such an ancient fellow would still be cutting firewood! Chaps are PGI Sawbucks and are a bit dirty but in great shape so I am happy about them!
