I was wondering the saw actual weight is as they advertise? For anyone that has one or has tried one, how do you like it compared to other saws that you have cut with?
I have not weighed mine but I can compare it to my 562xp and also a 362. The 462 is only a little bit heavier, and by a little bit I mean that you barely notice it. I love the 462 because it feels like you’re holding a 60cc saw but it has the power of a 70cc saw. It’s my go to saw and typically wears a 20” bar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks that’s what I was hoping someone would say. Anything you don’t like about it compared to a 562 or 362?
My 462 is the heaviest saw I use regularly . I have a Poulan 5200 but that is just a beast saw at around 20 lbs. Weight on the 462 will vary depending on bar length. I run a 20 on mine. My 036 was the biggest I ran for a bit and the 462 cuts circles around it. The AV on the 462 is great. I ran a 500i at our GTG last fall and I think I would Stihl pick the 462.
How does the 462 feel with a 24 or 28 inch bar. The weight thing is what has me interested in the 462. 70cc saw that weighs the same as a 60cc saw!
I run a 460 with a 28” bar and am wanting to get a lite bar, either 32 or 34 and hope it’s still fairly balanced. All that to say I think a 462 with an ES Lite or another lite bar would be decent. I know after getting my 460 I rarely run the 362 anymore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My Stihl 460 is supposedly 14.6 lbs. dry w/ bar and chain, the Dolmar 7900 is 13.6 lbs. dry w/ bar and chain. To be honest, I don't really notice the 1 lb. difference that much. Most of the time, a saw in this cc class is tasked to big bucking chores and you're not really holding the weight, especially if you're pivoting with the dogs. You fell the tree once, but buck it dozens of times. If you're limbing at arms reach for hours on end, a 1 lb difference is definitely noticeable, and its a new ball game.
A 28" light bar will weigh about what a solid 20" bar does. So I personally found the 462 to handle really well with a 28" light bar. And the weight is noticeable, at least to me it is.
Nice looking saw! I’m assuming you run a Stihl bar... do you have run a normal 20” or the light 20”? I’m wondering how the balance compares between the two bars. farmer steve ... you said you also run a 20in on this saw, any input ? Thanks!
I run a 462 as a bucking saw and I have the 28” ES Light. It works splendid on the fat fir, hemlock and maple here. I run 33RSF 93 chain. I grind 60 25 5 and it cuts fast and seems to have good durability but there is always gravel or sand somewhere in the bark that eventually dulls it. I just chain swap when scrounging like this.
I can't do any comparisons to any other bars. Since i bought the saw PHO and had a new 20" here and thats what i threw on. Haven't needed to use my 25 or 32" bars yet.
My tree guy had one with the stihl 28” lightweight bar. It was noticeably light lee than my 461 w Sugi 28” bar. It balances from the loop handle perfectly like the bar isn’t there. You might not want a bar that light but it should give you an idea.
