2 years ago I had hernia mesh surgery. The first year I passed several kidney stones and had 2 procedures due to the stones. All this occurred on my left side so I had a lot going on. This past year I’ve had almost nonstop pain on my left side. Several e.r. Visits, many dr appointments and meeting with the hernia surgeon all got me nowhere. Yesterday I met with a gastroenterologist who told me it was the hernia mesh, she’s seen it before, and that the surgeons won’t admit it. She ordered physical therapy and pain management.

Please do some research before you have hernia mesh surgery. It sounds like it works great 90% of the time and the rest go through hell.

You can get it removed. I think that’s the last option. It’s so hard to get information on this because most of the websites pertaining to hernia mesh are from lawyers looking to sue

I hope the physical therapy helps. But, if it doesn't, it's a hurdle you've passed to qualify for surgery.

I've seen people suffer from hernia pain/related pain and I just don't know how they would be able to perform PT!

I had hernia surgery 20 years ago. My left side really bothered a lot for 5 years. Went back a few times and didn’t get anywhere. Yours seems to be worse pain than I have. Mine still bothers some. I just had another hernia surgery a few days ago. This one was at a different spot. They wanted to just sew it up but they had to use a small piece of mesh cuz the area was to beat up to just sew it shut.
Hopefully they can find a way to get rid of the pain for you.
I have talked to a few people that said they have pain after the surgery that never goes away.
Hope they can come up with an answer for your pain.

OH yeah, I am sure that I would not return to the same team for help....

I'd definitely let them know (and the facility) though.

Nasty for sure. I've heard of problems with mesh several times. If it continues, fix it for sure. Nobody should have to go through what you've been going through for so long.

It's true, and even if they make a bad mistake all the forms one has to sign for the surgery remove all liability. My dad would still be here but complications from a botched surgery were too bad to fix. No recourse.

The surgeon stated the mesh wasn’t a problem and ordered physical therapy and pain management. The gastrointestinal dr said the mesh was causing my problem and ordered physical therapy and pain management. What does that tell you?

Looks like I'll ignore that groin hernia for a bit longer.
    :picard:

Sorry you're having all these problems when the surgery is supposed to make things better.

Not quite sure but how about a nice 12 week regiment of PT?

I had mesh put in almost 6 years ago now. Mine has bothered me ever since too. Never serious, just some mild discomfort from time to time. I often feel it if I was very active or lifting things the day before but it rarely lasts a day or two.

I had no idea this was a common thing, this thread is the first I'm hearing about it. As long as mine stays the same as it's been I'll just live the rest of my life with it but if it were a more serious pain like you're talking about that would be tough.
