Day in and day out, I am still amazed at the support on this site. The technical advice, the social comraderie and the most recent emotional support of a fellow member in need. It never fails to make me feel good to be in the company of hard working folks that think felling, bucking, splitting and stacking are sporting events. We had a turn in the weather in southern Wisconsin in the past couple weeks that shut down access to my harvest arena, but I feel good about my 2019 hoard. (Almost 16 cords and a dozen saw logs) Now in my down time, I have consulted with several members here regarding stove advice and viewed the many threads. It's nice to keep my head in the game via FHC. I'm looking forward to installing my first stove this Spring, building the woodshed and milling logs. Then sorting/transporting my stash to my home and of course researching all the new toys you folks keep bringing to my attention. It's like being a kid again with the Sears Christmas catalog. Keep up the good work everyone and thanks again for keeping this site alive.
Same here. As children, we were to go through and pick out one thing. One year, I remember my brother wanted a toy and parents wanted him to get some clothes. They compromised by buying him a new pair of pants and cut the bottoms of the pockets out!
I wonder if anyone still has one. I remember those showing up back in the early 90’s but probably wasn’t as fun as some you were accustomed to reading. Different audience for the times of course. Your stacks look great Holland Dell! I haven’t seen your post about stove advice yet but likely will find it soon enough. I’m overdue to get my wood going but its been ridiculously wet most of January where I am and the ground is likely to get tore up. Gonna leave that until it dries up a bit or freezes but highly unlikely here.
Thanks guys. They're just temporary stacks for now and need to be "prettied" up a bit. A mixture of varieties and seasoning levels that will get sorted when I move it. My timber land is about 10 miles from my home where I hope to build a more permanent storage structure. My personal stuff is mostly in the rear and middle. For now, the pile is a work in progress and allows a couple friends and buyers to pick what they want. Split or rounds if they want to do the work themselves. A small portion of the timber is in a program that changes soon. Thusly allowing me to get in and clean it up this year. Everything in the pile and the logs came off about 8 acres of it and you can see in the background theres still leaners that need to come out soon....weather permitting.
You are welcome! Snow has hardly had an impact here in Southern New England. November was the worst for Winter weather. Id say you're doing quite well in hoarding. Sometimes its nice to get a break and admire your work. Well done Holland Dell
I haven't been in the woods this winter. Being north of 70, snow and ice covering everything, hills everywhere, running chainsaw....not a good combination. I will wait until spring when things dry out a bit and I have better footing.
Very nice looking work Holland Dell ! Been mud here all winter long. No frost & lots of rain. Very little logging got done so far. Glad you've made such good progress.
