Last winter on this date is was -25f. Today it was 26f. We shall see what February brings, not to mention March. Wood supply at home is way ahead of last year at this time, thats for sure.
30 and 78 on coals still. Temperature trending down soon later this week but still around average with no big cold snaps in the foreseeable future.
Chaz 30 is a warm for January here Good wood is saved for cold meaning temperatures that start with. - Minus sign
Hanging around 30 again with cloudy skies. May get a few snow showers this afternoon. Beginning to sound like a broken record, but that is ok.
Finally low 30’s tonight, put some white oak in her a few minutes ago for an overnight. I’m barely burning at all. Just got electric bill today for Jan, $245.... we have a big house with two elect heat pumps... its not bad at all, and its been too warm for stove to offset electric which is why i have it. 50’s again this weekend with high 30’s or 40 at night, wont be burning again either. We are having a very warm winter this year. I kinda miss it.
Wife sent the attached picture to me this evening. Got the stove a little too hot. Just 30F but a load of kiln dried oak flooring. I'm guessing the bottom draft/Ash door was left open too. The blower is controlled by the thermostat. I'd like to modify the draft so it is controlled by the thermostat and a flue thermometer.
22 feels like 15, 77 inside. Windy but sunny today and up near 30. A little warmup tomorrow with less wind. This is just awesome for the middle of winter. If this keeps up we might get by with under 4 cord this season vs 5+ last year. You never know, but long range guesses show no real cold next 10 days or so. This weekend’s storm is even looking like mostly a miss. We’ll take it! Got some beech ready for when the coals are burned down.
32ºF outside. Eastern White Pine. The Quickie™ wood. It's so fine. It really is. Gotta cut up some oak I found in the spruce pile that's too long for the stove this afternoon sometime. Supposed to be 10/11ºF tonight/tomorrow morning. Good time to use it.
Another relatively warm night here. I also see 2 days predicted to be back into the 40's for Sunday and Monday. Good. Maybe some of the guys will be tapping maple trees soon.
32 here. Got a light dusting of snow on the rooftops last night. Just got done loading the boiler with some oak, hickory, and hedge....probably 8-10 splits total. Should be good to go for 24 hours. Supposed to be in the 50's with some sun in a few days. I'd rather is stay below freezing to keep the mud down, but some sunshine sure does sound nice. Can't remember the last time we had more than a couple minute of sunshine and its starting to wear on me.
Warm the last week or so. Upper 40's at night and lower 50's for the day and rain. Only have a fire morning to mid day otherwise to hot to sleep! Burning Fir and Big Leaf Maple. Saving the Locust, Madrone and Cherry for colder periods!
