Just wondering if anyone is central MA can give prices they paid or know of for log length delivered to their house. Prices I'm seeing are in the $100/full cord range. Also, were the loads decent stuff?
I'm expecting 5 cords this week for $500 delivered, I will update as to what I get for quality, size and species.
I used to buy cut, split wood from a guy. I then took logs from him. $120/cord, delivered. Good wood. Oak, beech, black birch, mix. He was a landscaper, that also cleared land, for houselots.
You could sign up for ChipDrop. I did, haven't gotten a drop, but they seem to be more active in MA. Free Wood Chip Mulch | ChipDrop WILL THERE BE LOGS IN MY CHIPDROP? Arborists should not put any unchipped logs into a load unless the gardener has specified that they accept logs. If you're a gardener who is accepting logs, please know that they may be rather large. The logs won't come pre-split, and they may be longer than you need them. You cannot specify the length or diameter of the logs, but you can specify that you don't want them. If you're requesting a load of logs, you'll want to be sure you have access to a chainsaw and splitting equipment. There's no guarantee that the logs will be cut to length before they arrive."
How close are you to me Warner, i was thinking of trying that. You might already know but Im in Mason Nh
100 $ per cord for tree length sounds about right. Guy I used to work for had a cut to length tree harvester and used to make nice processor quality wood. He is in central Ma.
The thing that I like about the guy with the 10 footers is it’s all tops noting more than 12 inch diameter. I’ve gotten grapple loads with some huge trunks in them some rotted in the middle. Some with barbed wire and cables in the wood.
The number traces to David B Winkowski dba The Woodbroker at 94 Cross St. Dunham. Ma. A cursory google map peek at that address has a huge pile of firewood and a conveyor in the side yard. Not much else. It is a very residential looking neighborhood. Trucking records for that name list 2 rigs and 2 drivers. With a focus on hauling logs/poles and agricultural material.
I love thumbing through the Jomarc. It's amazing what types of biznesses are around you that you would never know about.
