Have a few Carolina and Red Wing boots, but have always drooled over Nicks and Whites. Luckily the wife is understanding.

    Nope, which is perfect with me. It’s a fire boot. Not that I need that, but hey why not?

    Seems pretty common for boots, Mine usually don't get broken in for at least 2 weeks.

    I guess that sounds reasonable. I’ve never had a pair boots of that quality to experience it for myself. Perhaps one day. I hope they give him exceptional service.

    My redwing boots were pretty comfy right away, but also leaked first time in the rain. I use them as a back up pair of boots.

    :mad:
    I had traded the owner of the local Red Wing store boots for two cords of oak, split, delivered 15 miles out. just a handshake deal. He's bought wood from me for about 7 years now, good old guy. I went in to ask about a warranty on the boots as they leaked. Keep in mind they were 5 months old andhardly wornas I have 3 other pairs I wear. They told me not much he can do since I don’t have a receipt. Father/son shop, no one else, so not a big deal, didn’t think I needed a receipt. Ouch.
    :mad::mad:
    Really nice guy, offered to try and seal them with oil etc. Toldhim it was ok. That was enough to turn me off to them. I use Lowa boots a lot, and have never had one returned. My personal hikers are 4 years, still waterproof. Oh well lesson learned. /rant over

    Reddingnative , those new boots look great, I'm sure they'll work well for you. I tried the Redwing loggers for 1 fire season, switched to Wesco's after that. And for anyone wondering about a steel toe in a fire-fighting boot, no- not recommended. Don't pay attention and step in an ash pit, that steel toe gets hot and doesn't cool down quickly. I've done that, blistered my toes which really is painful , and 3 weeks on a line makes you want to cut them off. Rookie mistake.

    Seems like I would like the toe protection, would a composite toe boot work in a fire fighting situation?

    Any particular Lowa style/ model your happy with? I’d like to find a comfortable well made boot for all around use . Thanks!

    I have the Renegade gtx mid and the low. Use the mid top for hiking/camping/trail work. I use the low top most days for casual use (working in the office) looks good enough, but still has a good vibram sole on it. I have heavier duty boots for wood. The renegade gtx mid is the most popular.
