I took down two walnuts today. Both were leaning back over the property line and couldn't drop them because of a garden and buildings so I climbed and pieced them down. That was a lot of fun, I have no formal training but all went well with the climbing and I had a great time. Great rush of adrenaline dropping part of a tree while your up in it! Here's a few shots from today, me getting into position and then dropping the top. My friend that I was doing it for is a photographer but was so interested in watching he forgot to take pics until half way through.

Here's a few more shots from my phone, one is after the two were in the ground and another of a dead pine I dropped for the neighbor.

I ran the 011 in the tree and the 026 and 036 on the ground. The 036 did the dropping and the 026 did most of the bucking and limbing. Was a good day and got to use a few differenenr saws

Yea, its a job. I was talking with a guy climbing on a job yesterday, and he said he enjoys doing it for free also due to the fun factor and being up high. Love the avatar Swags!

Every time I see someone doing what you were doing Sean, it brings back some memories. It also makes me very happy I don't have to do that any more! I doubt if I could even use the climbers without killing my legs. I'll climb trees for hunting but about 25' up is as high as I go.

You earn the wood when you climb like that.....I've climbed literally HUNDRED of trees and I never lose that adrenaline rush.....that's one of the main reasons I do it!

Nice job Swags.....just remember to check, double check and triple check your rigging all the time when up there. And be careful to NOT cut your lanyard. That's why, if you notice, I keep several lanyards when up in the trees.....I usually double up when I set to cut high. I've got several big 'Uns to do the next several evenings....tonight is a hemlock that is close to 75' tall.....

So... did all of the chainsaw activity at the G2G get the word out in your neighborhood, that you're the guy to call to take down big trees? Good job getting it down. A lot of work.

Used to do crane lifts for tree service guys. They'd have me get em up to the top, they'd tie in and I was done. Lifts only took about 10 minutes. They'd fly all over the tree taking branches and sections as they dropped down. Faster and easier than climbing all the way up from the bottom... I was their elevator. Kinda cheatin... :axe:

Wow that seems like it would add a lot of cost to a job.

I just met with a certified arborist yesterday. He sells all kinds of equipment and does training. His prices are way better than what I found online. Im going to buy a real saddle from him and the gear to go with it. He was going over lots of different stuff last night and how he climbs. He uses a slingshot and throw line to set his line then goes from there. Great guy and Im looking forward to gaining some knowledge from him. He is going ot do some seminars in July on climbing ect.
