Every box was full of cut up kindling Unless its warm, I only restart the stove a few times a season. This kindling would be a lifetime supply for me!
That's a nice stash....I enjoy splitting kindling on a rainy day. I usually have 5 or 6 copy paper boxes filled at all times. When I bring wood from my indoor bin to the stove, I pick out the straightest pieces I know I can easily knock down to kindling. I have grown to like hardwood kindling because it burns longer and makes a nice starter coal bed to get everything else going.
I used to store a couple cords of kindling. Today i will burn the last of it. I dont use kindling anymore with the IS and the 4 year plan. Even cold starts use full size splits and one homemade firestarter....no need for kindling Storage area is 10x6. I would fill it with kiln dried cut offs 4-5' deep
Lately I'm starting to feel like another forum's rule about "no acronyms" would be a good idea here... KHC? IS? Kindling looks like a whole lota paint stirrers. I do like ($hit) OCD methodology to the storage. Dry wood availability or not, I think I prefer kindling and couple sheets of paper over starter cakes. I've started a lot of fires out in the middle of nowhere in the woods. I don't bring starter cakes with me.

Looks like someone probably works in a cabinet making plant or knows someone in that whole industry. I’ve got my boxes of kindling myself, mostly cedar shake cut offs or paneling from fences and they are relatively easy to cut to kindling sticks inch by inch or more. But I just don’t have the room to make a whole bunch of boxes of the stuff. Just stash and cut later when ready. I admit that I’m not burning prime wood anymore. That was burned in the fireplace before the insert was installed. The kindling is a must at this time. I’ll be working on the wood this summer likely, not having some prime spaces to use, I’m limited so to speak.

I still like kindling but sometimes don't use any. But usually I do use some. One fella we know has a cabinet shop and has given us several boxes of cut-offs. They work nicely.
Many milk crates of kindling here, mostly split red and white cedar, and birch twigs. Galvanized tubs of chips from splitting as well. I've got it bad.
There's somewhere about 2/3 cord of slightly larger splits than that in the shed at the moment (quite a bit more before burn season). I also use newspaper, cardboard, and homemade firestarters. My stove is in the stove room, and all these work well at different times of year in different situations, sometimes together.
