How about where the fasteners go through the metals?

 

Fasteners...we don't need no stinkin' fasteners!! Double sided foam tape, no fasteners required (just don't drive very fast)!



Now if you must have fasteners, this detail should work.



Or maybe, just maybe we are overthinking this?

 

Double sided TAPE this ain't no govt job this trailer is for real work!

Sorry. My brain is mush. I was talking with my mom about 4 wheelers. I had to repackage and deliver the same thing 5 different ways.

I think she finally got it though...

 

VHB tape is amazing. When I was in sales for Fastenal I sold a bunch to a customer who was building trailers for portable bbq smoking events. He started with flatbeds, added a SS pit on the rear, framed a shell for a small living quarters, and adhered aluminum sheet metal with VHB tape. Didn’t want any fasteners showing as he had wraps installed with his Logo. My research found many semi trailers with no rivets and instead used this tape.
In fact at a expo in Orlando one year, the 3M booth has a “tear” setup with metal signs. One was bolted with 3/8 bolts/washers/nuts and another with. Just tape over the seam. 12lb sledge as a pendulum and the bolted one would tear almost every time while the VHB taped one lasted all day. He’s even stand behind the seam with the jewels in line of fire to prove his trust. I was amazed and use the stuff at work now for whatever needs held.

I think ima take it to the sheet metal shop and get them to shear/break a couple pieces of metal for me. Then I'll need to figure how i can secure it in the 2 front corners. I'll probably need to add a couple angle tabs at those corners.
