Saw an ad for "3-4 cord stacked in rounds that was cut for few years." Not free . $150. Dont want to pay (or need to) for firewood. But curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to know what types of trees they were and how easy access was to the stack. Seller told me it was one huge locust, the rest was oak and a couple pine and the stack is 20 feet long and stacked 3 across. 20 feet from main road. That info. got my attention. I went to look at the stack with tape measure in hand. Like usual with CL, wrong info. The stack is actually 30 feet by 5 wide with average 4.5 tall. Plus some oak skids he cut up to burn in his fire pit. Looks like I'll be busy hauling some rounds.
Excellent decision, $150 is just a token amount for that much wood. If it's mostly locust and oak, the rounds will be in good shape. I forget, do you have a truck?
No truck. I have a Tahoe and use of a friend's dump trailer. Well at least until spring. Than he needs it back for his landscape business. I told the seller if he wants moved in a day. Its not happening. He said didn't care how long it took
5.27 cords, by my reckoning. $28/ cord. Should have bargained him down to $80. "It's not even split!"
Remember to roll those big rounds upstairs on shorter rounds, save your back! That's a lot of wood to move, hope it's close (or on your way to work).
That's almost as good of a deal as the load that my boss told me about today. He said his buddy loaded up his F450 dump (10' bed) with a cord of wood and went to the auction...high bid was $18...and he had announced that he would deliver it to a local buyer...plus he had to pay a sellers fee! Talk about a good day to stay home! Heck of a deal for the buyer though!
