Things Kids of Today Wouldn't Recognize

When we got old enough to hunt without an adult we used to put the shotgun on the back seat of the old ford we drove to school and then go pheasant hunting after school.

 

I have some stuff the kids wouldn't know/ recognize but I don't remember what it is either.

 

They better take a look at your teacher...That looks like some BDSM equipment!!

 

A couple of years ago, we had someone riding around town on a bicycle armed with a shotgun. The whole town was on lockdown for two hours.

 

Just tossed out a set......haven't used 'em in a few years. They corroded to the point I couldn't read the little numbers anymore. New set to be purchased soon.

 

I got a set a those too... the corroded ones... ummm... they got numbers on em?

 

And to think, all we had to drill for was that the Russians were about to nuke us any minute.

I think they were numbers. Used 'em to set plugs and points.....I think.

 

Always wondered what it was used for...

 

Also the armature air gap and valve lash. Blade type feeler gauges only on new spark plugs, otherwise there is an indentation which to get the correct gap you need to use a wire type feeler gauge.

Had a couple Volks Beetles back in the day. #3 cylinder ran hot (the air cooling shroud design sucked), so that one always got set a tad loose.

 

When I started small game hunting, adults were nowhere to be seen. Buying 22 ammo was as easy as buying a candy bar, you only need the money to pay for it. IIRC a box of 50 .22 rounds were 50 cents. I started hunting with an adult when deer hunting came around and it was part of a group. No special attention paid to the young hunters except to make sure they knew how to safely cross barb wire fences.

 

We have three drills we practice regularly, Fire, Earthquake and lockdown - outside threat or inside threat. We have had to use the lockdown outside threat for real twice since I started working there.

We had 2 lumber yards in our area. They both gave out

yard sticks at the fair. Mom would come home from the fair with an arm load of them. We would miss behave and mom would get one out and start applying some correction. When she broken it over us, we would get it even more for breaking her yardstick. Never understood it. She was the one wielding the yard stick. I couldn't help it my backside was so calloused up.

Now my kids would say, This is the correction rod.

My wife was at a friends house they believed you don't hit a kid you gave them time out. She wondered why our kid was a dream to watch. Her kids were real hellions.
Our son had a speech impediment when younger. Our son was misbehaving when they were at their house. My wife told him to stop. He didn't stop and my wife reached down grabbed her shoe and appled some correction. When she went for her shoe our son said "Chit" Her friend commented that it was the first word she understood. He was an angel when she watched them. ???? Now a days we would have had the Police coming with lights and sirens.
My sister was the same way. Give them timeout. Her kid kicked her and had destroyed the bathroom door. Bathroom was the timeout area.

Where I bought my 22's they were in the same case as the candy bars.
