Two upper 20 yr olds from around where I live died when they sunk their sleds in open water up by my cabin about a week or so ago. A third nearly died too, but he was able to call 911 and told them that the three all went though the ice.

Yeah, this stuff was like cement.

6-8" depending whether it piled up from the roof or not. Heavy wet snow. Clearing the driveway and walks took a lot longer than usual. I had to put the snowblower in a low speed to be able to clear the snow.

    Before..

I heard a ton of sirens, more than I've ever heard. At first I thought it was a heart attack from snow removal, but then I saw few Dept cars, yukons, ambulances, fire trucks, and probably 15 vehicles with sirens going, some down the main Rd we live off of. I'm guessing there was a really bad accident close by.

Had a few spare minutes to split two more wheelbarrows of old white pine rounds today. Took the MM to a few just for grins and giggles and the centers are 15/16/17 and towards the outsides are 16/17/18, or 1 or 2 per cent wetter towards the outside on each one. That's a first. I'm thinking the wet/humid weather we've had the last few weeks. (uncovered stacks probably don't help either).

Yeah, that's probably why the centers are drier. I love pine in rounds. It really dries out well even in the round.

I never used to stack rounds but I had a bunch of blow down and leaner pines Winter before last and I was cutting to (try to) stay ahead of the bark borers. I think there's a couple different kind of borers, but, whatever. It was split and leave nice wood to rot and get bug infested or cut and try have some nice looking splits, eventually. Some of the smaller trees I didn't get to are already falling apart and soft.

Yes! Yes! Yes! I know I will eat these words down the line.
I am envious of you that have had the snow. Only some dustings this year. Since retiring, 4 years ago, I only remember one snow that had to be plowed and it wasn't that bad. 4" to 6". Could of beat through it with the truck.
Now that I have time on hand would love to play a little.

Same here. Haven’t had a real snow in years. I would like one paralyzer before I move south.

Stop by around here. While my drive is taken care of, I'm sure that there's others that would appreciate it.
I've got cold Point Bock in bottles if you're thirsty. These taste really good after clearing the driveway.:coldone: 20200118_155008_HDR.jpg

I whizzed through northern Ohio in September on my way back from New England. There's a good chance that will happen again in the future.

Another storm is about to start. Predicted to be out of here at noon tomorrow. 4-7 inches predicted. Cold so should be light stuff, but you really never know when we are so close to the ocean. News is showing other places gettin it bad. trucks sliding off the highway. I haven't been outside since Wednesday. Hate having a cold and not being able to do much.
Wife is cooking something different. (I'm not much for different) She has a white bean chili with chicken on the stove. Never knew of it before!

Looks like a really nice spread Horkin, and a couple of happy dogs. Reminds me of ours, complete with the exact same trailer in the front yard! There is another trailer in our backyard too, a big wood stack, and a flipped over fishing boat along the side of the garage. We are in a suburb of Mpls with big lots, cool neighbors, with gardens and misc. outdoor gear, but my wife somewhat sheepishly calls our spread "the neighborhood area Beverly Hillbillies." Squirrels and rabbits get shot and eaten here. Just missing our lab who passed on a few years ago.

Finally got the shear pin in the john deere changed out. Ended up drilling that dang thing out. I think the shear pins I had were not actually 5/16 as I had to drive them in with a hitter/pounder. Anyway, got the cottage all done and in time for more snow overnight.

Also, broke a pin on the ariens compact today. Dang snowplow driver filling in the driveway with some nice frozen chunks and the auger decides its just too hard for the pin......:picard:
