Just had to say this is such a great thread!! I love talking retirement, exploring and hearing about different parts of our great country. Especially from folks who live there or know about a certain place. Gives you absolute insider's perspective on things!!

Some good friends of ours retired to Murrell's Inlet SC about 3.5 years ago. They absolutely love it. Everything is much cheaper than up here, including taxes, commodities, gas, etc. Not to mention they are about a 8-10 minute drive to the ocean. The new house they had built was 250k. It was in a very nice neighborhood. A 2000ish sq. ft. ranch with a 2 car garage, central A/C, cathedral ceilings, 2 full baths, all "maintenance free" exterior materials, hardwood floors throughout, granite counter tops, real wood cabinets, etc. The same exact house here would be 325-350k all day long. I think the smart thing is to get a retirement based on a high $$$ area/salary, and retire to a cheaper area to live.

I'm just not sure how they can enforce a law about smell. Everyone's nose is different...
It's kinda like farmer spreading manure. If you don't like it, don't move to the country... Or if you do move, don't complain...

We used to go north in the winter to play, anywhere there was lots of snow. Now i'm getting really tired of the cold and snow and rain/mud. I don't think florida (or anywhere in the south) is the answer for me. I like the idea of traveling and moving around via camper and coming home when it's nice here.

They try to stop it here with water run off complaints.. Only a flatlander would move next to a hundred acre corn field and complain about the farmer putting Manure on it:picard::picard:

One of my co workers retired and picked up a double dipper job until his younger spouses retires. They are buying their big camper truck and Harley now. He plans to travel around, and if there is bad weather coming, hook up and head to a different part of the country and spend time there. Tired of crappy weather. Trying to avoid it as he can

This is in the back of my mind also. I have a CDL and the thought of a trailer with living quarters and some freight hauling capability is a neat idea. See the country and make a few bucks doing it. I have a buddy that has 12 car carriers East of the Miss that could get me some sweet car gigs from snow birds and repo companies or get hooked up with a few brokers and get some last minute loads that pay good.

A friend and I were talking one day about buying a van and converting it to live in and travel around the country; mostly just talk. I have looked at some of the videos on the net with what people have done with them; rather impressive. Cheap way to travel the country with the cost these days for lodging.

Yes, that is true. However, new production has ceased for both the bus and the beetle if I recall correctly.
