A few days ago I found this dude getting too close to the house. I snatched him up and took him in to work. I gave him to a friend with a farm to relocate him. Here's the problem. Today, in a matter of about 4 hours, I grabbed 3 more, right up against the foundation of the house. All were adults between 4-5 feet. I don't have a problem with them at all. I know how docile they are and I know how good they are for keeping the rodent population down. I hate mice. My wife is the issue. She is not only terrified but skeeved out by snakes. I have to relocate them. Here is my question: What's the deal with all these snakes? I've seen black rat snakes on the property before but not this many, this big, in this short time span, and this close to the house. I keep remembering the TV show I saw about infestations, specifically the one where there were thousands of snakes in the foundation.

In Interesting. We have lots of chipmunks around here. I bet that is what they are after around the house. This maybe an excuse to get a jack Russell
I also have a hard time getting along with snakes. There are usually a few around every year in the gardens. These are simple grass snakes, harmless to humans. I hate to see them eating the frogs, but that is part of the circle of life. I am hoping that those snakes are also eating slugs and other creatures I would like to keep away of my gardens. Too bad they don't eat ticks!
I don't know about the rat snakes in your area but around here they can be some nasty sob's. My dogs tend to scuffle with em now and then so any rat snake near the house usually gets the axe
Not trying to sidetrack the thread, but putting small tins (altoids tin size) filled with beer ( I know, a horrible waste) slugs love beer and will drown in it.
I haven't seen a rat snake in a long time, last time was in Florida. Snakes don't bother me, but some of them sure can move pretty quick!
Here's my last encounter with a black snake. Granted it was at work, now another title I get to add to my resume........Snake Extractor..... They notice it out by the front door. So I picked him up and put him in a trash can to relocate. Well who knew they were great climbers. Well it just so happens it escaped & went into the engine bay of one of the female workers here. Let's just say bugs she's afraid of, but snakes well she terrified of them. And was one too bit happy to have a new rider in her car......... Well I finagled it out. And released it out back of the property. And they couldn't understand why I didn't kill it. Even explain how beneficial they are.
