Drivin to work today, what do I spy neatly stacked by the side of the road? Some nice large rounds of pine. I’m not a snob, I’ll take pine it has its uses. It was there on the way home too. Once I got home put the real work clothes on and took the truck for a little drive. What do you know - that pine was still there. It no more . What’s not to like. It was: - free - next to the road - already bucked to a good length All I had to do was stack it in the truck - Woohoo. Pics below. stay warm
Good score, bro. I heat my house at 9,000 feet with mostly pine. Never had a problem. Free pine is money in your pocket - and money that you aren’t handing over to the gas company.
Great score Gpsfool Cant get much better than that! Nothing better than scoring wood when you least expect it! How close to home was it?
I was about to say the same thing. Whoever cut that tree down has been doing it for some time and understands standard lengths for a stove.
Yea length was all about the same although probably a bit longer than I like. I see some cookies in my future. The score was about 8 miles from home which for me is pretty close, it’s a 24 mile ride to work. My scrounges have been mostly ash since August - about 6 cords worth. EAB has been here long enough now that the ash cutting (and hence scroungeability) has taken a huge uptick since mid summer. Getting some pine is a good thing.
I am growing more fond of pine. There was a night the Mrs. and I were holding down the couches in the den, where my stove is located, and I usually toss a big ugly in the stove to keep a low fire as not to cook us out. That night I had a big ugly of pine, not sure exact species, but that sucker cooked us out once it got to coals stage. I tried it with another one day, and sure enough that did the same. I will now be mixing in bigger splits of pine in my bin.
