I answered a score for black locust and some other wood(Alder and maple perhaps). Then had to head to the hardware store for a faucet. As I’m walking in the hardware store, Facebook sees that I asked about wood and more advertisements pop up. Then this thing shows up. I doubt any of our recent members will recognize it but maybe some of you vets will? Noticing anything? This is not my ad for firewood at all, someone has in some way borrowed it to use online here to sell his wood. Interesting thing is why would they use this picture instead of the wood they have? It’s a bit comical seeing that this picture was used for something. Should I sue for copyright?? Link for reference... So this is madrone or madrona.
Just told him it was funny he was using my picture... but never thought someone would have used this for a selling point. Apparently he had better things to than talk to me about it. Just saying This was on his mind rather than this...
The way I see it, Once something is put out on the internet it’s fair game. It’s amazing the stuff people put out there for everybody to see..
I'm not sure if there is anything about Facebook that isn't a scam in some regard or another. I won't go near it, have no interest in it.
I’m not bothered by it but the point to this is I wanted to see if anyone has had this experience. However! I will say that if people are posting pictures of types of wood for id then FHC is getting popular!!! What a great resource for those who need to search for it. My thinking is why not use your own so you are posting something authentic that backs you up as a real stack instead of split half-round? If I were selling, I’d want a stack photo to go with it. Makes a better selling point wouldn’t it? Again that’s beside point on this. I’m more amused than anything.
I agree that it’s silly not to show a true pic of what you are selling. Perhaps the fella don’t know how to get his pics uploaded?
This was an ad from a real person but its hard to trust anyone who starts copying photos... like what’s the deal. Fishy...you’re not into it and I’m already immune to it. Never really believed anything unless I saw it in front of me.
Just FYI, pictures posted here on the public boards are available on interent. Notice where it says who's online and there a many robots? I would guess that guy copied and pasted it from your FB posting or from the here (I use google images). Either way I agree it's fishy!
Likely from here. Haha Im kinda honored and I know this was real but its like interesting and at the same time possibly a warning? Not knowing exactly what you’ll get. Also Madrona for a full cord here in WA ready to burn is likely 600 bucks. It’s usually high prices here and when heating oil is about gas prices here, not really a surprise. His price may be a little off since its mid winter but at the same time it’s mid winter. If someone does sell, they’ll be ok selling it since it’s nearly over in terms in burning season. But don’t take my word for it. YMMV...
My first instinct is he stole your pic because he doesn’t have Madrona himself and is scamming his customers. May be delivering gum.
5 years ago I'd toss not having a good enough camera out there to explain it there was a lot of picture borrowing on ebay back then - not just borrowing/stealing someone else's photo, but linking to it which could yield some comedy if the owner of the link changed the photo at the link. probably just lazy
Another forum I frequent for vintage chainsaw collecting/ restoration, the administrator there posts a lot of pics of his high end restorations and they are very notable as they are always posed on the same shop stool. Every once in a while, somebody scanning craigslist for saws, sees one of his pictures for an ad selling a vintage saw, which isn't him. P.T. Barnum said, there's a sucker born every minute. I've added that there are ten scumbags & con-men born every minute wanting to take advantage of that one sucker. A large facet of the internet is Scams-R-US.
Many moons ago I was looking at a web page, I think it was Alliance for Wood heat, but found this photo and it is of one of our wood stacks. I didn't mind.
That pic shows up in about 25 web pages. 3 or 4 of them are firewoodhoarders and hearthdotcom one of them is here: Which is funny considering they have several long-winded pages discussing their privacy and intellectual property rights and how they respect the property rights of others
Now I don't get that website at all. It's mostly all non-sensical. It's all text made up of what seems to be keywords for crawler robots. If it was full of ads I'd say it was an attempt at an income generator, but there isn't a single ad on the whole site. Money laundering ? It looks like a faux web site. It doesn't seem to have any purpose beyond just to be. A pet project ? Weird.
That's exactly what it is. Absent the ads or trying to sell something, it's often a site that is Fishing for information and/or installing malware/spyware on the unprotected computers of people that visit.
